Movie Review: American Made
Oddly enough, it all felt very relatable. For instance, Barry has a brother in law who he absolutely hates, but who he feels an obligation to take care of because he’s family, even though he’s lazy, dumb, angry and steals money. He breaks the law, but most of the time he’s doing it for his wife and for the boyish thrill of being able to live out his dreams of being an adventurer in the sky. I think a lot of people would be able to empathize with those situations.
The movie is well-told with an interesting framing device and has a strong structure that’s broken up into chapters, and it all comes together in a crisp, cohesive, satisfying climax all while adding a subtle but welcome commentary about how outright comical some of the plots of the American government are.
American Made, in theaters now, highly recommended. If you like charming smugglers, recent American history and politics, or just plain enjoyable movies, it’s worth the ticket price.
