Stat Growths

(Lower is better)
HP: 10 MP: 15 SPD: 100 PA: 40 MA: 50

In Final Fantasy Tactics Knight is a great class to level up in. It’s in a 3-way tie for the best PA growth (between Knight, Dragoon and Dark Knight), and it’s easily accessible to any character.

Ninja is typically the best physical class to level up in because you sacrifice a tiny amount of PA for a ton more speed, but it’s easy to make a case that Knight is second best, especially for a character like Agrias, who needs as much PA as possible and doesn’t get it in her base class.

Moveset: Arts of War

Ability NameJP Cost
Rend Helm300
Rend Armor400
Rend Shield300
Rend Weapon400
Rend MP250
Rend Speed250
Rend Power250
Rend Magick250

In Final Fantasy Tactics Knight’s moveset is actually pretty good. The equipment destroying abilities are not incredibly useful (anything you’d want to destroy is better to steal, and most things you’d want to steal/destroy in WotL are protected by Safeguard).

However, the stat breaking abilities come in handy extremely often. For example, if you want to use Squire’s Focus ability to build AP, whittling the opposing army down to one enemy and breaking its speed and PA to 1 will render it completely harmless.

Each successful hit with Rend Power/Magick/Speed shaves off a ton of a character’s effectiveness.

Reaction Abilities

Ability NameJP Cost
Parry200

Parry wouldn’t be entirely useless except for the fact that Reflexes exists. With parry, you get additional evasion from your weapon — in effect, your weapon acts like a 2nd shield. Some weapons, like the Defender Knight Sword, have particularly high evasion rates.

Unfortunately, Reflexes (and Shirahadori) are better than this skill in every conceivable way. Nevertheless, if you don’t have access to those yet, Parry isn’t a terrible skill to slot in temporarily.

Support Abilities – Final Fantasy Tactics Knight

Ability NameJP Cost
Equip Heavy Armor500
Equip Shields250
Equip Swords400

Equip Swords is a nice skill to have for the various Final Fantasy Tactics Knight special characters you acquire throughout the game, who need swords in order to utilize their skillsets. With Equip Swords, you can safely level them in classes that don’t naturally get swords without hamstringing them too badly.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t work with Knight Swords. Aside from that situation, these skills are mostly bad. Heavy Armor is generally considered to be worse than clothing because clothing offers tons of passive stat bonuses and armor just adds lots of health.

Movement Abilities

None

In Final Fantasy Tactics Knight actually doesn’t get any movement abilities whatsoever, so nothing to talk about here.

Final Fantasy Tactics Knight Overall Assessment

Knight is a great class to level in due to its fantastic PA and HP growth. Its moveset is useful to have on at least one character in your party. So, even though it’s a basic, early game class, it remains useful throughout the game.

Unfortunately, because it has no great reaction or movement abilities, you’ll want to go collect better abilities from other classes and bring them back to Knight. Knight is especially useful for Agrias, who has terrible PA growth in her base class, but great skills.

That about covers it for the Final Fantasy Tactics Knight Class. Be sure to check out the Games Section for more content like this and click here for more game guides related to FFT.
