Final Fantasy Tactics Onion Knight Quick FAQ

How do you unlock the Onion Knight class in Final Fantasy Tactics?

Onion Knight requires Square level 6 and Chemist level 6 to unlock.

How much total JP does it take to master the Onion Knight class in Final Fantasy Tactics?

The Onion Knight class has no skills, so no JP is required to master it.

What kind of stat growths does the Onion Knight class offer in Final Fantasy Tactics?

Before Onion Knight reaches class level 8, it has terrible stat growths across the board. Once it reaches level 8, however, it has the best stat growths in the game for every category.

What kind of skills does the Onion Knight class learn in Final Fantasy Tactics?

The Onion Knight class learns no skills on its own. It can only use standard attacks.

Stat Growths

(Lower is better)
Level 1-7 – HP: 13 MP: 13 SPD: 100 PA: 80 MA: 50
Level 8 – HP: 6 MP: 8 SPD: 80 PA: 35 MA: 40

In Final Fantasy Tactics Onion Knights, at level 8, get the best growths in the game. They’re tied for best HP with Mime, tied for best MP with Summoner, tied for best Speed with Ninja, tied for best PA with Mime and tied for best MA with Mime.

So, basically, it’s like a Mime with Ninja speed growth and lots of MP.

Unfortunately, unless you’re totally insane, you’ll never take advantage of these growths, as getting the Onion Knight to level 8 is ridiculous and Onion Knight itself is unable to accrue any EXP.

Moveset: None

In Final Fantasy Tactics Onion Knight doesn’t get any abilities, but it does get a lot of restrictions. It can’t equip abilities and it can’t gain EXP. It can equip any item in the game (including female-only items on male Onion Knights), as well as ridiculously powerful Onion Equipment.

You may ask yourself: if Onion Knight is all about stat growths and it doesn’t gain any EXP, how do you level an Onion Knight?

The answer is just as ridiculous as everything else about the class. Wild Boar monsters have a hidden ability called Bequeath Bacon, which can only be used when standing next to a character with the Beastmaster ability.

Bequeath Bacon sacrifices the Wild Boar to grant someone a level. This is the only way to level up as an Onion Knight. You have to murder scores of hapless allied Wild Boars.

Reaction Abilities

None

In Final Fantasy Tactics Onion Knight doesn’t gain access to, nor can it equip, any Reaction Abilities.

Support Abilities

None

In Final Fantasy Tactics Onion Knight doesn’t gain access to, nor can it equip, any Support Abilities.

Movement Abilities

None

In Final Fantasy Tactics Onion Knight doesn’t gain access to, nor can it equip, any Movement Abilities.

Final Fantasy Tactics Onion Knight Overall Assessment

Onion Knight is a total troll class. I haven’t even tell you how you gain job levels yet, because those awesome growths don’t even unlock until Onion Knight level 8.

Ready? Every 2 classes you fully master grants a job level to the Onion Knight. So you have to master a grand total of 14 other classes to get the level 8 Onion Knight.

I’m not sure why they bothered to include this class. If they wanted to do something interesting by adding an extra class (this was an addition for WotL), they could have added a Blue Mage class, or something else. Instead… troll-class Onion Knight.

Anyway, if you’re going to jump through a bunch of hoops to level up as a useless class with good growths, Mime already exists. All this class has over Mime, basically, is Ninja speed and, if I’m being honest, both are a waste of time. Just level every character as a Ninja if you want good growths.

That about covers it for the Final Fantasy Tactics Onion Knight Class. Be sure to check out the Games Section for more content like this and click here for more game guides related to FFT.
