If you’re playing Borderlands 3, you’re going to want to find some nice shields to equip that really increase your survivability. This guide will help you do just that, letting you know the top 5 shields that are the best, the strongest, and the most sought after in the game. These are the top 5 absolute best shields in Borderlands 3.

5. Ward

ward

A shield most people will have access to since it’s a dedicated drop from Graveward, the most commonly farmed boss in the game. Ward gives a pretty significant damage increase (25% gun damage, 300% melee damage) when it’s depleted. The main problem with this is that your shields are not depleted most of the time, and ideally, you don’t want them to be depleted. Still, it has a high capacity and the gun damage bonus is substantial. Especially useful if you’re using a melee build of any kind.

4. Stop-Gap – Best Borderlands 3 Shields

Stop-Gap gives you 5 seconds of damage immunity whenever your shields deplete. This is a pretty potent defensive bonus. Additionally, its capacity and other stats are fairly strong. It can be very good, especially on a Bloodletter/Deathless Moze build. In most cases, the Re-Charger accomplishes the same thing, but with more overall versatility, but if you don’t have that, Stop-Gap is another great option. It drops from El Dragon Jr, a rare enemy in the Jakobs Estate.

3. All-In – Best Borderlands 3 Shields

All-In is not a legendary, but it may as well be. It’s a quest reward from the first quest in the Moxxi’s Heist DLC. It’s a much more offensive option than most other shields. Its most notable feature is that it constantly drops little boosters that increase your Action Skill cooldown rate by 50%. For a lot of builds, this is an incredible benefit. Incredible as it is, though, in most situations the Re-Charger and the Transformer are still better options overall.

2. Re-Charger – Best Borderlands 3 Shields

The Re-Charger is the only shield that even comes remotely close to matching what the Transformer is capable of accomplishing in terms of defensive stats. It has a high capacity and, despite what the tooltip says, it doesn’t start recharging when it’s depleted, it fully recharges. So, in essence, the Re-Charger’s capacity is double its stated capacity, and the 20 second cooldown on its effect is really not that long. In terms of survivability, it’s hard to find a better option than the Re-Charger. It drops from a rare enemy spawn in Lectra city named Urist McEnforcer and the Valkyries in Maliwan’s Takedown drop some variations of it.

1. The Transformer

This is the shield that most people are looking for. It has great stats all around, and it totally nullifies shock damage, absorbing it into increased shields. On its own, this is already incredible, but it also passively refills your ammo as you take damage. For Amara, it’s even better, as it allows you to combine the effects of the Spiritual Driver with shock damage to receive all the benefit of having a DoT on you to build Mindfulness stacks, while converting all that DoT damage into healing. This is generally the best shield in the game. Transformer drops from Killavolt in Lectra City.
