Blueblood Overview – XCOM Chimera Squad

Blueblood is a DPS character who’s capable of firing his gun multiple times per round. This allows him to rack up pretty good damage on most turns. His unique skill is Deadeye, which deals 50% more damage with a -15% Aim penalty.

Like all other characters in XCOM Chimera Squad Blueblood can rank up 5 times, and gets a permanent talent choice at ranks 2 and 4 and additional training options at ranks 3 and 5.

Rank 1: Deputy Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Blueblood

Lancer Shot

Description: Blueblood fires his Lancer Pistol at a target, ignoring all cover bonuses.

It doesn’t mention it in the description, but this is a breach skill. As far as breach skills go, it’s one of the better ones. It’s basically a modest upgrade over the regular breach shot. It does roughly the same amount of damage as a normal shot but it ignores cover bonuses and seems to have a 100% hit rate.

Rank 2: Field Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Blueblood

Warm Welcome

Description: The first shot in each clip disorients the target.

First off, Axiom and Zephyr both add status effects every time they attack, whereas Blueblood adds Disorientation once every 4 shots. To be honest with you, I’m not even sure what Disorientation does. I never noticed enemies behaving differently when they were afflicted with it, and I didn’t notice any difference when my own characters were afflicted with it. Whatever it does, it’s not terribly impactful. So, this skill adds a rare chance to inflict a status effect that doesn’t seem to do anything.

Ever Vigilant

Description: Blueblood automatically activates Overwatch if the last action of his turn is spent moving. Includes using abilities that can provide movement, such as Subdue or Stabilize.

Meanwhile, this ability is quite good. It’s not uncommon to end a turn with Subdue, since it’s a 100% hit chance against a low health enemy, and every time you Subdue, you get a free Overwatch shot during the enemy’s move phase, assuming the enemy moves anywhere remotely close to Blueblood. I had this skill proc constantly without ever consciously trying to make it proc. A decent upgrade.

Rank 3: Special Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Blueblood

Phase Lance

Description: Blueblood fires the Lancer Pistol in a straight line blast. The shot ignores line of sight and is unaffected by cover bonuses. 3 turn cooldown.

Phase Lance is a fairly decent nuke. It does a little more damage than your typical non-crit shot and it has a 100% hit rate. The line mechanic is pretty strict, so it’s not terribly common you’ll be able to tag more than 2 enemies with it, but it does hit fairly hard. You’ll probably want to use this skill whenever the cooldown comes up.

Rank 4: Senior Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Blueblood

Fond Farewell

Description: The last shot in each clip deals double damage.

This isn’t a bad skill. Because Blueblood fires twice per round, he chews through ammo pretty quickly. That means he deals double damage once every other turn, which amounts to about a 25% damage increase overall. It’s not too flashy, but it gets the job done.

Cascade Lance

Description: Phase Lance upgrades to ramp up its damage for each subsequent enemy it hits in a single blast.

This is a good upgrade for Phase Lance. If you manage to hit 3 or 4 enemies with it, it’s not uncommon for it to one hit kill the later enemies. Regular Phase Lance damage is ~6, so subsequent enemies will takes 7-8 damage which, in Chimera Squad, is actually a pretty large amount of damage. It’s hard to say which is the better skill between this and Fond Farewell. Fond Farewell is probably a more consistent damage increase overall, but when the stars align for a nice Cascade Lance, it’s really satisfying to melt several enemies at once.

Rank 5: Principal Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Blueblood

Faceoff

Description: Blueblood fires his pistol at every enemy in his line of sight, limited by ammo. One use per mission.

This ability basically amounts to 5 damage against 4 targets. Which is actually pretty good. You can use it to soften up enemies, and it does make a pretty sizable difference in some fights, especially fights where you’re facing off against a big swarm of enemies.

Training Bonuses – XCOM Chimera Squad Blueblood

Quick Reload (Rank 5): Reload is a free action.
