Cherub Overview – XCOM Chimera Squad

Cherub is a tank and support character that you get at the start of the game. He has the ability to shield teammates in order to block incoming damage. His main skill is Kinetic Shield, which blocks one instance of damage for any party member.

Like all other characters in XCOM Chimera Squad Cherub can rank up 5 times, and gets a permanent talent choice at ranks 2 and 4 and additional training options at ranks 3 and 5.

Rank 1: Deputy Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Cherub

Phalanx

Description: Enemies focus their fire on Cherub ignoring other XCOM units at the breach point. Block all damage and gain 1 Charge for each attack. One use per mission.

This is a decent enough breach skill. You only get to use it once, which isn’t ideal, but if there are a lot of aggressive enemies, you can absorb all that damage and start off the encounter with a full shield charge.

Rank 2: Field Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Cherub

Generator

Description: Cherub gains 1 charge at the end of each encounter.

This ability is alright. It ensures that Cherub starts off multi-level missions with at least one charge in each encounter, which greatly increases his damage output in the early game where he’s usually able to KO enemies in one hit as long as he has a charge. I’m not sure I would recommend it over the other option at this level, though.

Guard

Description: At the end of the turn gain +1 Armor, a half cover bonus even if flanked and become half cover for friendlies. Guard breaks after being attacked.

This ability is a decent passive boost to Cherub’s survivability. Between Guard and his Kinetic Shield, he’s certainly very tanky, and provides a fair amount of survivability to your team as a whole.

Rank 3: Special Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Cherub

Overload

Description: Cherub can now store 3 charges, and gains a Mobility bonus when fully charged.

This is a fairly big boost to Cherub’s overall effectiveness in general, since his charges increase his damage output significantly. The mobility is a nice little addition.

Rank 4: Senior Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Cherub

Recharge

Description: Using Charged Bash to render an enemy unconscious refills 1 Charge.

This ability is very nice to have, because if you’re using your charges well and taking advantage of the AoE, you can get charges from this fairly reliably, meaning it just becomes an almost permanent damage increase.

Resonance Field

Description: Allies with Kinetic Shield gain 15 Aim.

Kinetic Shield is a great ability but it’s somewhat unreliable as an accuracy buff since it gets destroyed whenever anyone who has it gets attacks. It’s a decent enough buff, but keep in mind you can just equip a Superior Sight to any character to give them a level of accuracy where they’ll almost never miss. I’d recommend Recharge over Resonance Field.

Rank 5: Principal Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Cherub

Supercharge

Description: Cherub spends all stored charges and increases the primary weapon damage of all allies, while placing a Holo-target effect on all enemies. The duration of the effect increases with Charge spent. One use per mission.

It’s just a huge team damage buff. It doesn’t last very long. Roughly one turn per character. As far as ultimate abilities go, it’s not terrible, but it’s not mindblowing either. It’s in the middle of the pack.

Training Bonuses – XCOM Chimera Squad Cherub

Return Fire (Rank 5): Fire back at the attacker when shot at.
