Overview – Chrono Trigger Ayla

chrono trigger ayla

In Chrono Trigger Ayla is your physical attack powerhouse. She’s capable of dishing out incredible physical attack damage with her extremely high strength and great speed.

Unlike most characters in Chrono Trigger Ayla has a weapon that increases in power automatically. Her Fist weapon evolves as she levels up. The first two levels increase her critical hit chance up to 30% at level 48. She gains the Iron Fist upgrade at level 72, which inflicts Confusion, and then, finally, she gains the Bronze Fist upgrade at level 96 which deals 9999 damage on critical hits.

Best Equipment – Chrono Trigger Ayla

When you’re using Ayla in Chrono Trigger, you’re going to want to pick up her best equipment. She’s among the best characters in the game and she’s the only one who can steal, so you’re more than likely going to want her in your party and you’re going to want to keep her equipment up to date.

Like with most other characters, when it comes to the best equipment, you’re looking for 4 things:

  • The best weapon
  • Innate status immunity
  • Auto-Haste
  • Damage bonus

Knowing that, the best equipment you’re going to find for Ayla will be this:

  • Best Weapon: Bronze Fist
  • Best Helmet: Angel’s Tiara
  • Best Armor: Regal Gown
  • Best Accessory: Prism Spectacles

The only other option you may want to consider here is using the Valor Crest in the accessory slot once you get the Bronze Fist to get the most out of Ayla’s 9999 damage crits.

However, just keep in mind that you’re not going to get the Bronze Fist. At least not if you play the game normally. If you complete every single challenge and side quest in the game, including the powered up form of the final boss, you might be level 70 or so.

If you want to get the Bronze Fist, you’re looking at several solid hours of grinding just to see it on your equipment screen, which is what I did to get that screenshot. If you don’t have the Bronze Fist, Prism Spectacles are indisputably better.

Best Equipment Locations – Chrono Trigger Ayla

Bronze Fist – Chrono Trigger Ayla Best Weapon

Ayla’s weapon automatically upgrades to the Bronze Fist once you reach level 96. Since you’re most likely not going to reach level 96, just keep in mind that you can’t change Ayla’s weapon and it upgrades automatically at level 24 (+5% crit), 48 (+5% crit), 72 (inflicts Confusion) and 96 (crits deal 9999 damage).

Angel’s Tiara – Chrono Trigger Ayla Best Helmet

Angel’s Tiara, which provides Auto-Haste and Status Immunity, is found in the Dimensional Vortex in Antiquity. It’s inside one of the random rooms during the first portion of the dungeon, so you might have to run through the vortex multiple times before you see it. It’s located in the random room that’s modeled after the Lost Sanctum, which is a Prehistoric theme with a bunch of pink and blue imps.

Regal Gown – Chrono Trigger Ayla Best Armor

Regal Gown is also found in a chest in the Antiquity Dimensional Vortex, although it’s much easier to find since it’s guaranteed to be there. Once you’ve completed the first portion and you’re in the ice area, it’s in a chest in the large room full of blue Heckrans.

Prism Spectacles – Chrono Trigger Ayla Best Accessory

There are normally two places to find Prism Specs. The first is obtained at the same time you get the Rainbow after completing both the Rainbow Shell and Sun Stone quests.

The second is Charmed from the Steel Shade in the 1000 AD Vortex.

However, in the DS version of the game, you can get an infinite amount because it’s a random prize in the 6th Tier battles in the Arena of Ages.
