Overview & Review- Yakuza Like a Dragon Matriarch Job

yakuza like a dragon matriarch

The Yakuza Like a Dragon Matriarch job is a DLC only job for Saeko and Eri. Matriarch is probably the best physical attacking job available to females, with tons of varied stat bonuses, a fantastic arsenal of attacks, and decent Character Skills.

In terms of classic RPG archetypes, Matriarch is most similar to a Samurai.

Matriarch gets access to a full range of attack skills. It gets a single target skill with multiple hits to take down Invested Vagrants. It gets a powerful Essence skill that targets all enemies for great screen clearing ability. It gets an excellent bladed Essence skill for high damage to single targets.

In addition to all of that, it gives probably the biggest cumulative total of stat bonuses of any class, since all of its stat bonuses give double the typical amount from a regular class. Sure, the fact that it gives bonuses to relatively useless stats like Healing damper that point a little bit, but regardless, Matriarch gives a lot of stat bonuses.

The only real downside to Matriarch is that it’s a DLC only class, so you might not want to pay another $5 on top of the base price of the game just to get access to it. That said, it’s probably the best female job class overall.

Matriarch makes a great job transition for Eri, where she can really double down on the Attack and Agility bonuses she piles up as a Clerk and put them to great use by taking advantage of the Matriarch’s powerful arsenal of physical attacks.

Yakuza Like a Dragon Matriarch Best Weapon

The best weapon for the Yakuza Like a Dragon Matriarch job is called the Green Dragon Crescent Blade EX EX. Like all the best weapons, it’s obtained by upgrading a low level base weapon at the Romance Workshop in the Commercial District in Ijincho.

The base weapon you need is the Lady’s Naginata, which you can buy from Chau Ka Long’s Armory for 3.5 million yen.

To finish upgrading the weapon, you need a ton of various kinds of insects. Golden Insects can be farmed from the first 9 floors of the Sotenbori Battle Arena and Silver Insects are available at the Gambling Hall and the Shogi Prize Shop.

Yakuza Like a Dragon Matriarch Accessory

The Job Experience accessory for the Yakuza Like a Dragon Matriarch Job is pretty easy to obtain. It’s called the Rising Dragon Belt. You can get one from the story fights at the end of Chapter 11 or you can simply buy as many as you like from the secret shop in the Commercial District in Ijincho at the far Southwest corner of the map (Demolition skill required).

Since you can obtain multiple Rising Dragon Belt, Matriarch is able to equip two at once to boost its job experience by 2x.

Character Skills – Yakuza Like a Dragon Matriarch Job

Every job in Yakuza Like a Dragon has two specific Character Skills, which, once learned, can be used by that character no matter which job class they’ve been assigned.

For the Matriarch job, the character skills are:

Evil Begone: Cure all allies of sleep, stun, brainwash, or charm with a powerful naginata swing.

Bullet of Honor: Damage an enemy by spraying machinegun fire. May leave the enemy bleeding.

Matriarch’s Character Skills are actually fairly nice, as far as Character Skills (which are generally useless) go.

Evil Begone cures your entire party of a variety of the worst status effects. That situation doesn’t come up that much (if it included fear, it’d be a lot more useful), but nevertheless it’s a nice little tool that you get just for turning into the Matriarch. You don’t even have to leave Hello Work. It’s available at level 1, so it’s totally free.

Bullet of Honor is actually a great attack. Not because it does an immense amount of damage (though it’s a fairly potent ability), but because it hits multiple times, giving both Saeko and Eri a reliable way to cut through the Invested Vagabonds you need to kill in order to grind for experience in Yakuza Like a Dragon.
