Overview & Review- Yakuza Like a Dragon Dealer Job

yakuza like a dragon dealer

The Yakuza Like a Dragon Dealer job focuses on luck in order to inflict status effects, buff allies, debuff enemies, and deal damage. Unfortunately, even when everything goes according to plan, Dealer’s utility doesn’t measure up well against better jobs, like Matriarch.

In terms of classic RPG archetypes, Dealer is most similar to a Gambler.

Dealer is capable of producing upsides like “temporarily increase a random stat for a single party member”, in a game where other jobs are able to reliably increase a specific stat for all party members. In terms of damage, it gets a lot of critical hits, but its attack power is fairly low, which in practical terms means it has a high chance to do similar damage to what other classes do every turn.

Its Essence abilities are, in my opinion, probably the worst in the game. Essence of Russian Roulette does mediocre damage to a handful of enemies and also regularly hits your own party members. Essence of Fortune’s Wheel, probably the Dealer’s most iconic ability, has roughly a 50% chance of inflicting a devastating status on your entire party, like Sleep or Fear.

If Dealer’s skills had no drawbacks at all, it still wouldn’t be among the better classes, but since all of its skills have these randomized elements, it’s even worse. On the plus side, it gets a ton of bonus Agility and Dexterity bonuses.

Yakuza Like a Dragon Dealer Best Weapon

The best weapon for the Yakuza Like a Dragon Dealer job is called the Fake Ace EX EX. Like all the best weapons, it’s obtained by upgrading a low level base weapon at the Romance Workshop in the Commercial District in Ijincho.

The base weapon you need is the Tarot Cards, which you can buy from the Casino for 500 points or win from the Part-time Hero quest “Bento and Bonsai Delivery”.

To finish upgrading the weapon, you need a Royal Joker Card, which you can buy from the Casino in Chinatown for 100,000 points, or (much more easily) from Le Marche in Kamurocho for 10,000,000 yen.

Yakuza Like a Dragon Dealer Accessory

The Job Experience accessory for the Yakuza Like a Dragon Dealer Job is pretty easy to obtain. It’s called the Gambler’s Tie. You can get one from Substory 28 or you can simply buy as many as you like from the secret shop in the Commercial District in Ijincho at the far Southwest corner of the map (Demolition skill required).

Since you can obtain multiple Gambler’s Ties, Dealer is able to equip two at once to boost its job experience by 2x.

Character Skills – Yakuza Like a Dragon Dealer Job

Every job in Yakuza Like a Dragon has two specific Character Skills, which, once learned, can be used by that character no matter which job class they’ve been assigned.

For the Dealer job, the character skills are:

Jackpot Chip: Damage an enemy by throwing a mysterious chip at them. High chance to land a critical hit.

Trickster’s Top Hat: This skill may leave the enemy burned, poisoned, or with a cold.

Dealer’s Character Skills aren’t very compelling. Jackpot Chip is alright, as it’s pretty much a guaranteed critical hit, but it’s no better than any great physical attack skill that’s available on whatever job your might switch into. If you switch to Matriarch or Night Queen, for instance, you’re going to be using their Essence-level attack skills over Jackpot Chip every time.

Trickster’s Top Hat also has limited utility. Damage over time skills in Like a Dragon just aren’t all that good. The amount of damage they deal tends to be inconsequential, and plenty of damaging skills apply these status effects anyway.
