Without further ado, these are the Tales of Arise Alphen skills.

Iron Mask – Tales of Arise Alphen Skills

tales of arise alphen skills iron mask

Unlocking Conditions: Unlocked automatically during the story.

Completion Bonus: Attack +10

Skills

Sonic Thrust: A lightning-fast thrust followed by a sweep attack.

Increased Max AG: Increases maximum AG by 1.

Increased Critical Damage: Increases the amount of damage dealt from critical hits.

Easier Perfect Evading/Guarding: Makes perfect evading and perfect guarding easier to execute.

Increased Mid-Air Damage: Increases the amount of damage dealt to enemies in mid-air. Also applies to floating enemies.

Review

Max AG and increased critical damage are great bonuses, especially for Alphen who relies on refilling his AG with crits. Sonic Thrust is worth picking up just because it’s an arte. At that point you might as well finish off the panel for the +10 Attack.

Rebellious Spark – Tales of Arise Alphen Skills

tales of arise alphen skills rebellious spark

Unlocking Conditions: Unlocked automatically during the story.

Completion Bonus: Defense +10

Skills

Severing Wind: Summons a vicious gale as it strikes enemies upward.

Counter Edge: After a perfect evade or perfect guard press [attack] to trigger an immediate counterattack.

Stardust: A hidden arte that unleashes a barrage of thrusts before concluding with a dramatic slash.

Increased Max AG: Increases maximum AG by 1.

Mid-Air Evasion: Allows you to dodge once while in mid-air.

Review

This panel has a lot of useful tools. Counter Edge and Mid-Air Evasion come in handy throughout the entire game. Increased Max AG is always a top priority node. The two artes are alright, but might as well pick them up just for completion’s sake. Defense +10 isn’t that attractive, so you can hold off on the artes until later if you want.

Arms Collector – Tales of Arise Alphen Skills

tales of arise alphen skills arms collector

Unlocking Conditions: 10 weapon types forged.

Completion Bonus: Elemental Defense +30

Skills

Devastation: A downward sword swing that slams enemies into the ground.

Increased Max AG: Increases maximum AG by 1.

Increased Near-Death Attack/Elemental Attack: Increases Attack and Elemental Attack strength when near death.

Increased Critical Damage: Increases the amount of damage dealt from critical hits.

AG Restored From Critical Hits: Restores AG when critical hits are dealt.

Review

There’s a lot of good stuff in the Arms Collector panel. Increased Max AG is always great. AG Restored From Critical Hits is another must have as it’s a core mechanic for Alphen. Increased Near-Death Attack may not seem that great but it actually just means stronger Flaming Edge attacks, as they eventually always put you at 1 HP. Increased Critical Damage is great since you’ll be trying to score those crits to restore AG. Devastation is alright.

Blazing Sword – Tales of Arise Alphen Skills

tales of arise alphen skills blazing sword

Unlocking Conditions: Automatically unlocked during the story.

Completion Bonus: Defense +10

Skills

Rising Phoenix: Charges the enemy with the Blazing Sword in hand, becoming a phoenix incarnate. Inflicts self-damage when used.

Infernal Torrent: A sweeping Blazing Sword attack that burns the area around an enemy to a crisp. Inflicts self-damage when used.

Flaming Edge Burst: Allows the Flaming Edge to be charged in exchange for greater damage dealt, but also at the cost of more HP consumed.

Increased Down Damage: Increases the amount of damage dealt to enemies that have been downed.

Faster Flaming Edge Charge: Speeds up Flaming Edge charge time. The amount of HP consumed while charging remains unchanged.

Review

Almost everything in this tree should be a priority for you, as they’re almost all core mechanics for Alphen. Increased Down damage is also good throughout the game.

Emissary of Liberation – Tales of Arise Alphen Skills

tales of arise alphen skills emissary of liberation

Unlocking Conditions: Automatically unlocked during the story.

Completion Bonus: Elemental Defense +20

Skills

Increased Max AG: Increases maximum AG by 1.

Faster AG Recovery: Speeds up the rate of AG recovery.

AG Restored by Perfect Evading/Guarding: Restores AG upon executing a perfect evade or perfect guard.

Increased Weak Point Damage: Increases the amount of damage dealt to enemy weak points.

Increased Near-Death Defense/Elemental Defense: Increases Defense and Elemental Defense when near death.

Review

This is not the most attractive panel overall. Increased Max AG is always a priority, but other than that nothing here needs to be picked up right away. Plus the completion bonus of 20 Elemental Defense isn’t that attractive. If you have other skills to purchase I’d suggest getting those and coming back here once you have spare points.

Arms Sommelier – Tales of Arise Alphen Skills

tales of arise alphen skills arms sommelier

Unlocking Conditions: Forge Atonement Edge. You’ll forge one eventually if you just keep up with your weapons crafting.

Completion Bonus: Penetration +40

Skills

Faster AG Recovery: Speeds up the rate of AG recovery.

Increased Normal Attack Limit: Allows you to unleash one more normal attack during a combo.

Increased Critical Damage: Increases the amount of damage dealt from critical hits.

Easier Perfect Evading/Guarding: Makes perfect evading and perfect guarding easier to execute.

Increased Weak Point Damage: Increases the amount of damage dealt to enemy weak points.

Review

Nothing in here screams must-have in terms of Tales of Arise Alphen skills, but there are a few things that are nice. Critical damage and the completion bonus are the main things. Normal attack limit increase sounds good but at a certain point you just spam artes and stop using normal attacks almost entirely.

Another Day, Another Wall – Tales of Arise Alphen Skills

tales of arise alphen skills another day another wall

Unlocking Conditions: Increase relationship with an ally. You have to talk to someone during a campfire scene.

Completion Bonus: Elemental Attack +30

Skills

Rising Falcon: Delivers a swift, hard kick while rapidly descending from the air.

Counter Edge Upon Enemy Defeat: Allows you to trigger Counter Edge by pressing [attack] upon defeating an enemy.

Increased Boost Strike Damage: Increases the amount of damage dealt to enemies that get hit by a Boost Strike.

Increased Counterattack Damage: Increases damage dealt to attacking enemies.

AG Restored by Perfect Evading/Guarding: Restores AG upon executing a perfect evade or perfect guard.

Review

This panel is just ok. Increased Counterattack Damage is more worthwhile than it seems, as it basically increases attack damage against any enemy that isn’t down, since they’re all almost always attacking. Counter Edge Upon Enemy Defeat can be kind of nice as a mobility tool, but is only situationally useful. Boost Strike damage is nice. Other than that nothing is a high priority. Elemental Attack is a nice bonus for your Flaming Edge attacks, which are calculated using Elemental Attack, not Attack.

Blazing Blow – Tales of Arise Alphen Skills

tales of arise alphen skills blazing blow

Unlocking Conditions: Down Enemies 35 Times With Boost Attacks. This is easy, just keep using Boost Attacks with Alphen until it unlocks. It always inflicts down (unless you kill an enemy with it, I guess), so just use his Boost Attack 35 times.

Completion Bonus: Resistance +20

Skills

Rending Flash: A slashing Blazing Sword attack that leads into a raging string of thrusts. Inflicts self-damage when used.

Increased Boost Gauge From Enemy Downs: Increases the amount of Boost Gauge added when downing an enemy with a Boost Attack that matches their trait.

Flaming Edge Burst: Allows the Flaming Edge to be charged in exchange for greater damage dealt, but also at the cost of more HP consumed.

AG Restored From Critical Hits: Restores AG when critical hits are dealt.

Increased Near-Death Defense/Elemental Defense: Increases Defense and Elemental Defense when near death.

Review

You’ll want the Flaming Edge Burst and the AG Restored From Critical Hits. Might as well take Rending Flash for completion’s sake. Other than that, the other skills in this panel aren’t much of a priority. The extra boost gauge is kind of nice, but I wouldn’t spend points on it over something else and the Resistance completion bonus isn’t very attractive in terms of Tales of Arise Alphen skills.

Infernal Tongue – Tales of Arise Alphen Skills

tales of arise alphen skills infernal tongue

Unlocking Conditions: Cook Roasted Chicken with Alphen. You get the recipe by completing the “City Renewal” quest in Niez. If you’re completing quests as you go you should run into this.

Completion Bonus: Attack +20

Skills

Iron Cleaver: A two-hit slicing counterattack activated when hit while bracing for an enemy attack.

Recover: When sent flying, press [evade] to recover and land without being downed.

Increased Near-Death Attack/Elemental Attack: Increases Attack and Elemental Attack strength when near death.

Increased Counterattack Critical Hit Rate: Increases critical hit rate while attacking an enemy that’s also currently attacking.

KO Prevention: Allows you to endure an enemy attack with 1 HP remaining one time when taking an attack that would otherwise KO you.

Review

Everything in this tree is pretty good except Iron Cleaver. The only artes you really need are Reigning Slash and Double Demon Fang. Recover is great. Near-Death Elemental Attack is a damage bonus for your Flaming Edge attacks. Increased Counterattack Crit is basically increased crit on everything that isn’t downed. KO Prevention is a must-have especially for Alphen who has a high-risk playstyle.

Comrades in Freedom – Tales of Arise Alphen Skills

tales of arise alphen skills comrades in freedom

Unlocking Conditions: Unlocked automatically during the story.

Completion Bonus: Elemental Attack +40

Skills

Shockwave Slash: A fierce slashing sweep attack from the side.

Increased Max AG: Increases maximum AG by 1.

Over Limit Extension: Extends the duration of Over Limit.

Mid-Air Jump: Allows you to jump once while in mid-air.

Increased Counterattack Damage: Increases damage dealt to attacking enemies.

Review

That Elemental Attack bonus is pretty nice when it comes to Tales of Arise Alphen skills. Shockwave Slash is not worthwhile. Increased Max AG is always good. Over Limit Extension is somewhat useless as you tend to just activate your Mystic Artes immediately when you activate Over Limit. Mid-Air Jump sounds useful but it is not. Increased Counterattack Damage is nice.

The Power of a Sovereign – Tales of Arise Alphen Skills

tales of arise alphen skills the power of a sovereign

Unlocking Conditions: Unlocked automatically during the story.

Completion Bonus: Attack +50

Skills

Vacuum Blades: A hidden arte consisting of a string of one-two slashes that lead into a final downward swing.

Increased Boost Strike Damage: Increases the amount of damage dealt to enemies that get hit by a Boost Strike.

Easier Over Limit: Makes it easier for you to trigger Over Limit.

Flaming Edge Burst: Allows the Flaming Edge to be charged in exchange for greater damage dealt, but also at the cost of more HP consumed.

Increased Near-Death Attack/Elemental Attack: Increases Attack and Elemental Attack strength when near death.

Review

The Attack completion bonus is great. Vacuum Blades is not worthwhile as it’s not Reigning Slash or Double Demon Fang. Everything else in this panel is pretty much a must-have. Very nice panel when it comes to Tales of Arise Alphen skills.

Vanquisher of the Four Lights – Tales of Arise Alphen Skills

tales of arise alphen skills vanquisher of the four lights

Unlocking Conditions: Defeat the 4 Elemental Bosses. These bosses appear after The Wedge shows up and they’re all fought during various subquests. You need to defeat the water boss in the hidden fishing spot, the wind boss at the top of the tower in the Tower of the Wind Spirit, the Earth boss at the end of the Earth Spirit Temple and the stag boss from Flower of Nevira. They’re all around level 65, so you might need to power up a little bit if you intend to kill them when you first get the quest.

Completion Bonus: Elemental Attack +50

Skills

Thunderous Devastation: A hidden arte that begins with a sweeping slash before calling forth a bolt of lightning from the sky with a downward swing.

Increased Max AG: Increases maximum AG by 1.

Increased Down Damage: Increases the amount of damage dealt to enemies that have been downed.

Increased Counterattack Critical Hit Rate: Increases critical hit rate while attacking an enemy that’s also currently attacking.

Increased Boost Gauge From Enemy Downs: Increases the amount of Boost Gauge added when downing an enemy with a Boost Attack that matches their trait.

Review

You’ll want that Elemental Attack completion bonus. Everything in this panel is pretty good except Thunderous Devastation, as the only artes you’ll probably be using are Reigning Slash and Double Demon Fang. Otherwise you’ll want to pick up everything in this panel and then take Thunderous Devastation for the Elemental Attack bonus.

Unrelenting Blaze – Tales of Arise Alphen Skills

tales of arise alphen skills unrelenting blaze

Unlocking Conditions: Automatically unlocked during the story.

Completion Bonus: Resistance +50

Skills

Incineration Wave: A swing from the Blazing Sword that summons a large pillar of fire. Inflicts self-damage when used.

Increased Max AG: Increases maximum AG by 1.

Faster Flaming Edge Charge: Speeds up Flaming Edge charge time. The amount of HP consumed while charging remains unchanged.

Increased Evasion Distance: Increases the distance traveled when dodging enemy attacks.

Flaming Edge Burst: Allows the Flaming Edge to be charged in exchange for greater damage dealt, but also at the cost of more HP consumed.

Review

You’re going to want everything in this panel even though the completion bonus isn’t attractive. Incineration Wave is generally viewed as the best of the Flaming Edge attacks and it’s also the attack you get from Reigning Slash and Double Demon Fang, which I keep mentioning. Everything else in here is great. Take it all.

Undefeated Swordsman – Tales of Arise Alphen Skills

tales of arise alphen skills undefeated swordsman

Unlocking Conditions: Clear the Novice Training Grounds with Alphen. You can do this pretty much as soon as the Training Grounds unlock, which happens as part of the story.

Completion Bonus: Penetration +30

Skills

Void Flash: A hidden arte that opens up a vacuum wave that makes enemies float in the air.

Increased Normal Attack Limit: Allows you to unleash one more normal attack during a combo.

Easier Over Limit: Makes it easier for you to trigger Over Limit.

Faster AG Recovery: Speeds up the rate of AG recovery.

Increased Mid-Air Damage: Increases the amount of damage dealt to enemies in mid-air. Also applies to floating enemies.

Review

It’s a very underwhelming panel. Easier Over Limit is a no brainer, but everything else can wait until you have points to spare. Penetration sounds nice but in practice it doesn’t really do much.

Enlightening Bond – Tales of Arise Alphen Skills

tales of arise alphen skills enlightening bond

Unlocking Conditions: Deepened Alphen’s Bond With a Party Member. You have to watch all of the campfire scenes with at least one character and complete their relationship with Alphen. There’s a real-time time limit between scenes (about an hour). Just focus on watching scenes with the same character and you’ll unlock this quickly.

Completion Bonus: Elemental Defense +40

Skills

Thunder Fang: A hidden arte that launches an enemy up with a left punch, immediately followed by a sweeping slash.

Increased Max AG: Increases maximum AG by 1.

Over Limit Extension: Extends the duration of Over Limit.

KO Prevention: Allows you to endure an enemy attack with 1 HP remaining one time when taking an attack that would otherwise KO you.

Increased Boost Strike Damage: Increases the amount of damage dealt to enemies that get hit by a Boost Strike.

Review

Increased Mag AG and KO Prevention are must-have skills. Increased Boost Strike Damage is nice. The Over Limit Extension and Thunder Fang can wait until you have points to spare.

Veteran Samurai (DLC) – Tales of Arise Alphen Skills

Unlocking Conditions: Buy the Warring State Costume Pack.

Completion Bonus: Attack +50

Skills

Orochi’s Galeforce Fury:  A hidden arte that opens with a flurry of slashes while stepping forward, before whipping up a tornado.

Increased Attack/Elemental Attack When Full: Increases attack and elemental attack strength while the effects from cooking are active.

KO Prevention: Allows you to endure an enemy attack with 1 HP remaining one time when taking an attack that would otherwise KO you.

Increased Attack/Elemental Attack When Surrounded: Increases attack and elemental attack strength based on the number of enemies targeting you.

Increased Near-Death Attack/Elemental Attack: Increases Attack and Elemental Attack strength when near death.

Review

Everything here is pretty good and the costume is also pretty cool. I’m not entirely convinced the DLCs are worth it, but it is a pretty good panel and a pretty cool costume. You’ll have to make your own decision.

Beach Hero (DLC) – Tales of Arise Alphen Skills

Unlocking Conditions: Buy the Beach Time Costume Pack.

Completion Bonus: Elemental Attack +50

Skills

Howling Azure Storm: A hidden arte that fires off a pair of water blades for a two-hit attack.

Strengthened Counter Edge: Increases the damage inflicted from using Counter-Edge.

Strengthened Counter Edge: Increases the damage inflicted from using Counter-Edge.

Increased Ailment Bonus Damage: Increases the amount of damage dealt to enemies with physical ailments.

Increased Ailment Bonus Damage: Increases the amount of damage dealt to enemies with physical ailments.

Review

The Elemental Attack bonus is nice when it comes to Tales of Arise Alphen skills. Otherwise, nothing here is incredibly compelling. Unless you really like the costume, I don’t think it’s worth it.

Straight Laced Schoolboy (DLC) – Tales of Arise Alphen Skills

Unlocking Conditions: Buy the School Life Costume Pack.

Completion Bonus: Defense +50

Skills

Plasma Shock: A hidden arte that kicks the enemy up into the air before shoving them back down and striking them with lightening.

Increased Boost Gauge from Enemy Defeats: Increases the amount of boost gauge added upon defeating an enemy.

Increased Boost Gauge from Enemy Defeats: Increases the amount of boost gauge added upon defeating an enemy.

10 Hit Boost Gauge Increase: Raises the boost gauge every 10 hits during a combo.

Increased BG At Battle Start: Increases the boost gauge when a battle begins.

Review

Nothing in here is particularly compelling when it comes to Tales of Arise Alphen skills. The 10 Hit Boost Gauge Increase is nice, but other than that, there’s really nothing super compelling in this panel.
