1. Sacrificial Stab – Darkest Dungeon 2 Occultist Skills
Sacrificial Stab deals 3-6 damage and grants unchecked power with the target has a combo token.
Usable: Ranks 1-3
Targets: Ranks 1-3 (Single Target)
Sacrificial Stab Mastery Upgrade: Increases damage to 4-8 and crit chance to 20%. Also grants an unchecked power token on kill.
Review: If you’re using Occultist in rank 3, Sacrificial Stab can be a good way to get unchecked power tokens before unlocking Chaotic Offering. It remains a pretty good skill after that. If you’re using Occultist in rank 4, it’s useless.
2. Abyssal Artillery – Darkest Dungeon 2 Occultist Skills
Abyssal Artillery deals 3-6 damage to enemies in ranks 3 and 4.
Usable: Ranks 3-4
Targets: Ranks 3-4 (Targets All)
Abyssal Artillery Mastery Upgrade: Increases damage to 4-7. Adds a 25% chance to apply a combo token. Stuns enemies with 2 tokens of unchecked power.
Review: Abyssal Artillery is Occultist’s bread and butter attack. It hits decently hard and hits two targets. You can general take down a squishy back row with 3-4 of these depending on RNG. It’s a good attack.
3. Weakening Curse – Darkest Dungeon 2 Occultist Skills
Weakening Curse inflicts 2x weakness tokens. One round cooldown.
Usable: Ranks 1-4
Targets: Ranks 1-4 (Single Target)
Weakening Curse Mastery Upgrade: Additionally inflicts a combo token. Removes crit tokens.
Review: This is a decent debuff, especially early on when Occultist may not have anything else worthwhile to use on a particular turn. Once you unlock chaotic offering and get the unchecked power skills, it’s hard to justify a spot for it on your loadout.
4. Wyrd Reconstruction – Darkest Dungeon 2 Occultist Skills
Wyrd Reconstruction heals a random amount between 0 and 33% health if the target’s health is under 33%. Has a 50% chance to inflict a 3 damage bleed on the target.
Usable: Ranks 1-4
Targets: Any Ally
Wyrd Reconstruction Mastery Upgrade: Increases maximum heal to 50%, reduces bleed damage to 2.
Review: Wyrd Reconstruction is an annoying ability. More often than not it’s either a waste of a turn or does more harm than good. It’s completely unreliable and the RNG skews towards the negative side. Sometimes it heals a lot, usually it heals for almost nothing and inflicts a bleed.
5. Daemon’s Pull – Darkest Dungeon 2 Occultist Skills
Daemon’s Pull deals 2-5 damage and pulls the target 2 ranks forward. Inflicts a combo token. Clears all corpses.
Usable: Ranks 2-4
Targets: Ranks 3-4 (Single Target)
Daemon’s Pull Mastery Upgrade: Increases damage to 3-6, pulls 3 ranks, inflicts stun with 2x unchecked power.
Review: Daemon’s Pull is a really useful skill. The damage is lower, but the pull effect and the corpse removal effect are great for controlling positioning. It’s situationally useful, but the situations it helps with come up a lot.
6. Vulnerability Hex – Darkest Dungeon 2 Occultist Skills
Vulnerability Hex removes dodge tokens and inflicts vulnerability. One round cooldown.
Usable: Ranks 1-4
Targets: Ranks 1-4 (Single Target)
Vulnerability Hex Mastery Upgrade: Inflicts an additional vulnerability token.
Review: Vulnerability Hex is an alright skill in most situations, and very useful against cultist encounters. As with Weakening Curse, it’s hard to find room for it once you get Chaotic Offering, but it’s still a decent skill.
7. Binding Shadows – Darkest Dungeon 2 Occultist Skills
Binding Shadows deals 3-6 damage, moves the user forward 1 rank, grants unchecked power 50% of the time.
Usable: Ranks 2-4
Targets: Ranks 1-3 (Single Target)
Binding Shadows Mastery Upgrade: Increases damage to 4-8, grants a guaranteed unchecked power token is target has a combo token.
Review: Binding Shadows is mediocre. Its primary use it building up unchecked power tokens, but with Binding Shadows you only get one once every other round, give or take. Compare that to Chaotic Offering which guarantees one per round for a total of 4 with just one casting. The choice is clear.
8. Malediction – Darkest Dungeon 2 Occultist Skills
Malediction deals 1-2 damage and applies a debuff where the enemy is inflicted with a random 1 damage DoT each time it takes damage. Requires 2 unchecked power tokens.
Usable: Ranks 1-4
Targets: Ranks 1-4 (Single Target)
Malediction Mastery Upgrade: Increases damage to 2-3 and DoT damage to 2.
Review: Malediction is a very creative skill that’s just not that good. You’d have to hit an enemy 5 times to build up a 10 damage DoT. In contrast, you could use the same 2 unchecked power tokens to cast The Burning Stars once and most likely kill the enemy in one hit.
9. Anamnesis – Darkest Dungeon 2 Occultist Skills
Anamnesis deals 1-2 damage to all enemies and inflicts a 3 damage bleed on all enemies. Requires 2x unchecked power tokens.
Usable: Ranks 1-2
Targets: Ranks 1-4 (Targets All)
Anamnesis Mastery Upgrade: Increases damage to 1-3 and bleed damage to 4.
Review: Anamnesis would be alright except for the positioning requirement. This fits into some sort of gimmick Sacrificial Stab build, but in most parties it’s unlikely you’re going to use this skill very often.
10. The Burning Stars – Darkest Dungeon 2 Occultist Skills
The Burning Stars deals 8-16 damage and ignores block tokens. It inflicts a combo token. Requires 2x unchecked power tokens.
Usable: Ranks 2-4
Targets: Ranks 1-4 (Single Target)
The Burning Stars Mastery Upgrade: Increases damage to 12-18 and crit chance to 15%.
Review: The Burning Stars is a ridiculous skill and probably the Occultist’s best skill overall. This skill in conjunction with Chaotic Offering turns Occultist from a drag on your team to a powerhouse heavy hitter. It’s really good.
11. Chaotic Offering – Darkest Dungeon 2 Occultist Skills
Chaotic Offering deals 15% damage to self and grants an unchecked power token. For the next 3 turns, the user gets another unchecked power token every turn for a total of 4. Three round cooldown.
Usable: Ranks 1-4
Targets: Self
Chaotic Offering Mastery Upgrade: Reduces self damage to 10%, reduces cooldown to 2 rounds.
Review: Chaotic Offering is a must have. The self damage is modest at best and it generates a ton of unchecked power tokens that you can use to cast the Occultist’s ridiculous Burning Stars nuke or stun the entire enemy back row with a powered up Abyssal Artillery.
