This Ni no Kuni 2 Citizens Recruitment Guide will teach players where and how to recruit all of the Ni no Kuni 2 citizens with easy directions and screenshots.

If you’re playing Ni no Kuni 2, you know that early on in the story you gain control of your own kingdom called Evermore, and recruiting Ni no Kuni 2 citizens to Evermore is a huge part of the game. Most side quests in this game are about recruiting Ni no Kuni 2 citizens.

There are a total of 103 recruitable Ni no Kuni 2 citizens, 100 of which are available to freely allocate to different buildings in your town. The other 3 citizens are party members (Evan, Roland and Lofty) who count towards the total but can’t be used.

I’m still going to include them in the guide, because it can be confusing to players trying to complete the Ni no Kuni 2 Citizens Almanac if I don’t. Let me be clear, to save everyone confusion: Evan, Roland and Lofty DO count towards the 103 total in the Ni no Kuni 2 Citizens Almanac, but they DO NOT count towards the total you see at the top left of the screen when you’re actually in town.

After researching Nature Talk in the Evermore Spellworks, go to Greenglade Cave, which is West of the Forest of Niall, and finish the quest you receive when you enter. After finishing that quest, exit and return, then talk to Rumpel. He wants you to defeat a boss in the same cave.

Talk to him in Goldpaw following the events there. Talk to the NPC near the Southern entrance of Cloudcoil Canyon, who will tell you to go to Crookneck Cavern, which is near the Wyvern’s Den. Go to Crookneck Cavern and win the (easy) fight, then return to Tabbias.

17. Tyger – Ni no Kuni 2 Citizens Recruitment

Quest 140: Taming Tyger

After the events at Ding Dong Dell late in the game, head to Hermit’s Hollow, which is the cave the game forces you to park your airship in front of when you first visit Ding Dong Dell. He wants you to develop 30+ weapon types at the Evermore Weapon Shop. Every time you construct a weapon at the Weapon Shop, it will get a checkmark next to its name. You need 30+ checkmarks. You can save yourself some time by doing this before you go see him.

18. Furnest – Ni no Kuni 2 Citizens Recruitment

Quest 107: Furnest, the Inscrutable Author

Furnest is one of the most annoying characters to recruit because there’s an element of chance involved. Starting in Chapter 9, keep visiting Swift Solutions until you get the task “Sickening Silks.” Once you turn that task in, close the shop window and you’ll be told to go talk to Furnest in Ding Dong Dell.

Talk to Grampuss in Ding Dong Dell starting in Chapter 9. Wants you to solve a riddle. The answer to the riddle is an Underdog’s Ring (he lists the material requirements). Craft an Underdog’s Ring at the Armor Shop and return to Grampuss.

Talk to the guard near the center of the water in Ding Dong Dell starting in Chapter 9. Wants you to go to the Western Woods to the South of Ding Dong Dell and find Grimm. Defeat the monster there and talk to Grimm to finish recruiting him.

Talk to Raxel in Ding Dong Dell on the Eastern side of town starting in Chapter 9. He wants you to defeat 10 Tropical Fang-Fish, which you can find in the Drylands. If you run out of Fang-Fish to fight, just warp back to the same location and the monsters will refresh.

Talk to the two people outside Niall’s chambers in the Forest of Niall. They want you to go to the Jumblewoods and find Muriel. Do so, and Muriel will ask her to look for her Llapaca. Find Paco the Llapaca a little farther into the Jumblewoods.

Find Moggie May at Spineshiver Grove, which is Northwest of Evermore across a bridge. She wants you to defeat the boss of the forest.

Following the events of Goldpaw, talk to two kids in the alley south of the Casino, then find Henny in the Forest of Niall. You have to fight some easy monsters, and then Henny will join your town.

Talk to Rosamund in Ding Dong Dell starting in Chapter 9. She wants you to have 70+ citizens in your kingdom. You can tell how many citizens you have easily by either looking at the top left of the screen in Evermore or by checking the Citizen Almanac in the menu and subtracting 3 from the total.

Talk to Bao Wao in Goldpaw after getting the boat. You need to have at least 10k gold. Pay him 10k and he’ll run off. Find him again in the alley to the North and get your money back. He wants you to go to Floodfall Cave, which is Southeast of Goldpaw but can only be reached by boat. Go there and retrieve the True Snake Eyed Peas, then return.

41. Long Mein – Ni no Kuni 2 Citizens Recruitment

Talk to Long Mein in Goldpaw following the events there. You have to chase him around Goldpaw and talk to him a few times, and then fight a war battle outside on the world map.

Talk to him in Goldpaw following the events there. He wants 3 silver nuggets. You may not have those yet when this quest becomes available. They’re a common item. Either keep going through the game until you start picking them up or get them from Mining Camp No. 1 in Evermore.

Talk to Hau Ling near Fortune Square in Goldpaw following the events there. Go to the casino and talk to the people there, then talk to a man near the entrance to Goldpaw. Next, talk to a person Northwest of the Inn who looks like Hau Ling. Chase the imposter to Fortune Square and find him again East of the statue to complete the quest.

Talk to Hoi Den in Goldpaw following the events there. Wants you to visit Tightfit Cavern and defeat the monster there. Tightfit Cavern is at the North end of the Rubbly Ruins, which are North of Evermore. There’s also a Higgledy Stone there.

Talk to Tiller in Capstan-upon-Hull after getting the boat. He wants you to meet him at various islands around the world. First, meet him at the beach South of Capstan by the big ocean rift. Then, head East to another beach South of Hydropolis. Last, head Northeast to Crawlspace Cave, which is on the Western edge of the Drylands (the desert continent in the East).

To complete the quest, give him a Four-Leafed Soreaway, which you probably don’t have at this point in the game. There’s one in a chest in The Abyss on the 2000 Fathoms Deep level. Head to 3000 Depths and then take the water jet that leads back to 2000 Fathoms Deep and open the chest there. Otherwise, just return when you find a Four-Leafed Soreaway.

60. Keeley – Ni no Kuni 2 Citizens Recruitment

Quest 042: Daddy Come Home

Talk to Keeley in Capstan-upon-Hull after getting the Airship. She wants you to go to Crackskin Caverns, which is on the Western edge of the Drylands. Before you go, make sure you’ve researched the Spirit Medium spell at the Evermore Spellworks. After finding Keeley’s father in the cave, beat the boss outside and return to Keeley’s father. Finally, return to Keeley.

61. Pontus – Ni no Kuni 2 Citizens Recruitment

Talk to Pontus in Hydropolis following the events there. He wants you to collect various ocean related materials, most of which can be gotten from the Fish Markets in Evermore.

First he wants a Blimpfish, which you can buy in Hydropolis.

Next, he wants a Pincushion Coral which you can find in sparkles in The Abyss and Makronos.

Finally, he wants a Seasilk, which can rarely be found in sparkles in the open ocean or, more easily, by upgrading the Fresh Fish Market in Evermore.

62. Mylas – Ni no Kuni 2 Citizens Recruitment

After the events at Broadleaf, return to town and run left of the entrance. The quest for Oz will begin automatically. He wants you to flip a switch in the Factory Floors (the main dungeon in Broadleaf). The easiest way to do this is to travel to the Trip Door where the boss fight was and backtrack to the switch. Then, return to Oz.

84. Brodie – Ni no Kuni 2 Citizens Recruitment

If you recruited Nu Bi, he’ll give you a quest after the events in Broadleaf to craft a Mistral Spear of quality 6 or higher. After delivering it to him, he’ll ask you to go find Brodie in Broadleaf. When you find Brodie, he’ll give you quest 81 and ask you to defeat Mark 1 Retrodroids. Completing this quest will complete both quests and Brodie will join.

85. Kent – Ni no Kuni 2 Citizens Recruitment

She says she’ll join if you have strong women in your ranks. If you recruited Min Ti way back in Goldpaw (which you almost certainly did), just talk to her again.

Talk to Dekkah on the cliff East of Ding Dong Dell after beating the game.

First he wants a Steak Dinner, which you can buy in Ding Dong Dell.

Next, talk to him outside Goldpaw. He’ll ask for a Lucky Lobster, which you can buy in Goldpaw.

Next, talk to him in Makronos (the island Southeast of Hydropolis), where he’ll ask for a Hydropolitan Stew, which you can buy in Hydropolis.

Then he moves to the cliffs near Broadleaf and asks for an Executive Steak, which you can buy in Broadleaf.

Finally, he moves to the Northern end of the Drylands and asks for a Gooey Curry. He gives you a recipe book that allows you to have Floyd cook it in the Evermore Kitchen. Bring him the Gooey Curry and he’ll finally join.

101. Senturi – Ni no Kuni 2 Citizens Recruitment

Quest 161: Testing the True King

Talk to Senturi at the entrance of Evermore after beating the game. She wants you to defeat the Starless Knight in the Bleachbone Shrine, which is in the Southwest corner of the Drylands.

102. Mileniyah – Ni no Kuni 2 Citizens Recruitment

Quest 002: Top Marks for Trying

You receive Mileniyah’s quest early in the game automatically as part of the story. He wants you to visit 9 Dreamer’s Maze Doors located throughout the world. Click here for the full guide on the Dreamer’s Maze Door locations. After you’ve completed 9 Dreamer’s Mazes, Mileniyah will join you and give you access to the 10th and final Dreamer’s Maze.

103. Tyran the Untamed – Ni no Kuni 2 Citizens Recruitment

Quest 162: Tyran’s Lament

Tyran is easily the longest and most involved recruitment quest. First, if you have the Labyrinth DLC, make sure you start the quest and defeat the (level ~30) boss outside the Labyrinth so that Chingis appears in your town, as you can’t do any of Tyran’s quests throughout the game unless Chingis is available to give them.

As you progress through the game, roughly after every new treaty you sign you’ll get a quest from Chingis to do a war battle with Tyran. These are Quests 31, 90, 147 and finally 162.

After finishing the final war battle with Tyran, talk to Tyran in Squeezethrough Grotto near the Forest of Niall. He wants you to find his 3 minions scattered throughout the world.

The first person near Ding Dong Dell. The second is East of Capstan-upon-Hull where the boats are. The third is on the Eastern edge of the Drylands. Then, return to Tyran and he’ll finally join.
