If you’re not prepared, attempting to beat Darkest Dungeon 2 Bosses can be devastating for your party. Lair Bosses can end a run, even if you have a great party and fantastic trinkets.

I’ve been playing Darkest Dungeon 2 since Early Access first began. Darkest Dungeon 2 has been my go-to game for months, and I’ve beaten every boss dozens of times, so I feel qualified to teach my readers how to beat the Darkest Dungeon 2 Harvest Child and other bosses.

Without further ado, let’s talk about how to beat the Darkest Dungeon 2 Harvest Child Boss.

Party Preparation – Darkest Dungeon 2 Harvest Child

Unlike most bosses, with the Darkest Dungeon 2 Harvest Child, you don’t need a party that’s capable of multiple characters hitting the back row, since the Darkest Dungeon 2 Harvest Child occupies rank 3 and changes position regularly.

Harvest Child is resistant to blight, so Plague Doctor is going to have trouble sticking any blights on him unless she has the Alchemist Path. Still, Plague Doctor remains the most reliable healer so you’re probably going to want her in most parties.

Jester is a great choice for this battle and most parties in general because of his stress heal. In the Darkest Dungeon 2 Harvest Child battle specifically, his combination of bleeds and being able to hit ranks 2 & 3 with his Harvest and Slice Off skills is very effective.

The main thing about the Harvest Child battle is that it repositions your characters and has them slowly move toward position 1, so any character with the ability to jump back in position is going to be a big help.

Some examples include Runaway, with her Dragonfly skill, as well as the aforementioned Jester, whose backward movement skill has the added bonus of inflicting blind.

Runaway’s Smokescreen skill is also great here, because you can inflict Blind on the Harvest Child right before it does its damaging Maws of Life skill, which is predictable.

If I was going to suggest characters specifically for this boss, not taking into account that you have to fight all the other lair bosses and the confession bosses on any given run, I’d say Jester and Runaway are great picks.

As always, a balanced party is usually a good idea. Here are some examples:

  • Plague Doctor, Jester, Highwayman, Man-at-Arms
  • Plague Doctor, Occultist, Man-at-Arms, Hellion
  • (Advanced) Occultist, Jester, Runaway, Hellion

When deciding on a party, you’ll want to take Character Paths into account. Having 4 characters with strong Character Paths is usually better than having a perfectly balanced party with no Paths or weak Paths, so pay attention to Character Paths when selecting a party.

Darkest Dungeon 2 Harvest Child Strategy

There are two main mechanics to be aware of in the Darkest Dungeon 2 Harvest Child fight.

First, there are two pieces of meat that hit your characters and inflict a status that makes them move forward the next round. If they have this ‘hungry’ status and reach rank 1, they’ll be forced to take a bite of the meat, which lowers their max health for the remainder of the fighter.

One of the meats hits the two characters in the front row, the other hits the two characters in the back row. The front row one is obviously more dangerous, as the characters it hits are guaranteed to be forced into rank 1 if the status is inflicted.

The back row one is less of a threat, especially if you’re using the Jester, who can just dance easily back into position and avoid the ramifications of the hungry status entirely.

The other mechanic to be aware of is that each time the Darkest Dungeon 2 Harvest Child takes a turn, it moves forward one rank. Once it’s in the front row, it hits your front two characters with its Maws of Life ability, which deals significant damage and inflicts bleed.

Now, your first instinct may be to take out the two meat enemies so you can avoid the hungry status. This is a mistake. Don’t do this. If you destroy both of the meats, the Harvest Child will always be in the front row and will use Maws of Life every turn and probably wipe your party.

In fact, taking out just one of the meats means you’ll be facing Maws of Life more often.

It’s better to avoid the meats entirely and focus on the Darkest Dungeon 2 Harvest Child himself. Even if you’re avoiding both meats, you’ll still probably kill one by the end of the fight because eat time a party member takes a bit, it deals a decent amount of damage to the meat.

If you managed to get the Dreaming General boss trophy that prevents character movement and roots your party in place, this boss is completely trivialized. The hungry status won’t move any of your characters and the only character who will ever need to eat the meat will be your rank 1 character, who is most likely your tankiest party member.

Otherwise, the best thing to do is to have your Plague Doctor dedicated to healing, and have characters like Jester, Runaway and Grave Robber who can position dance and never reach rank 1 deal damage directly to the boss every round without letting up.

The Darkest Dungeon 2 Harvest Child doesn’t have that much health, so you should be able to bum rush it down before it’s able to whittle your health down.

As always it’s great to go into a boss battle with Healing Salves and Smoke Bombs.

Rewards – Darkest Dungeon 2 Harvest Child Trophies

Each of the Darkest Dungeon 2 Lair Bosses has 2 trophies they can drop at random. The Darkest Dungeon 2 Harvest Child boss trophies are just alright. Nothing to write home about.

The first Darkest Dungeon 2 Harvest Child boss trophy is called The Bumper Crop and it is basically useless. It increases max HP at the cost of -50% death resistance, which is, generally speaking, a horrible deal. Equipping this accessory will make your party weaker.

Sure, more health is great, but getting a character deathblowed is a game over, and if you bring this thing into the later stages or the mountain area where surviving multiple Death’s Doors can be crucial, your run is going to end.

Equipping The Bumper Crop is a big gamble, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

The other boss trophy you can get from the Harvest Child in The Harvest’s Bounty, and it expands your inventory by 25 slots, which can be convenient.

There are no downsides to this, but having 45+ inventory spaces is overkill. Even with 28 spaces (two inventory stagecoach upgrades), you’ll have trouble filling your inventory. With 45 inventory slots you’ll just be lugging around a bunch of stuff you’re never going to use.

The Darkest Dungeon 2 Harvest Child boss trophies aren’t that alluring, but the inventory one can be good if you haven’t acquired any other good trophies by that point.
