If you’re not prepared, attempting to beat Darkest Dungeon 2 Bosses can be devastating for your party. Confession Bosses can end a run, even if you have a great party and fantastic trinkets.

I’ve been playing Darkest Dungeon 2 since Early Access first began. Darkest Dungeon 2 has been my go-to game for months, and I’ve beaten every boss dozens of times, so I feel qualified to teach my readers how to beat the Darkest Dungeon 2 Seething Sigh and other bosses.

Without further ado, let’s talk about how to beat the Darkest Dungeon 2 Seething Sigh Boss.

Party Preparation – Darkest Dungeon 2 Seething Sigh

Party preparation is critical for beating the Seething Sigh, possibly more than any other boss.

Beating the Darkest Dungeon 2 Seething Sigh requires you to be able to reliably deal damage to the backrow and the front row, while also keeping up your team’s health and maintaining your stress levels.

If you’re not able to deal enough damage to the lungs to prevent the boss from performing its Sundering Exultation move, you’re probably going to wipe.

Eating just a few of the boss’s Sundering Exultation attacks will dramatically reduce your chances of walking away victorious.

You want at least two character who can deal heavy raw damage to the back row. Plague Doctor doesn’t really work for this, since the lungs are immune to damage over time statuses, like Blight and Bleed.

I’ll give you a few party options, but let me just cut to the chase. This is, in my opinion, the best option for beating the Darkest Dungeon 2 Seething Sigh boss:

Plague Doctor (Alchemist), Jester (Soloist), Highwayman (Sharpshooter), Hellion (Ravager)

The reason this party is good is that Highwayman and Hellion can both deal heavy damage to the front and back rows. Additionally, Jester can blind the boss and heal stress, and Plague Doctor can keep your party healthy.

I’ve used this party to take down the Seething Sigh boss without losing a single character multiple times.

But, if you like variety, here are some individual tips.

Highwayman is good, especially Sharpshooter, because he can deal heavy damage to the front lung and the back lung from any position.

Normally I like Man-at-Arms better than Hellion, but for this fight, you’re going to want Hellion’s Iron Swan skill to be able to nuke the back row. Still, Man-at-Arms is generally speaking the best tank overall. If you can make do without Jester or Plague Doctor, you can slot in Occultist or Grave Robber to hit the back row.

Occultist and Grave Robber can hit the back row well. Grave Robber, frankly, doesn’t have the damage output of Highwayman or Occultist, so I’d say she’s a 3rd string option. Nightsworn Graverobber is pretty strong, but she can’t hit the back row well.

Here are two other party suggestions, though they’re weaker overall and I’d still say the PD, Jester, Highwayman, Hellion party is the best:

  • Plague Doctor (Alchemist), Occultist (Warlock, with the dagger skill to hit the front row), Man-at-Arms (Vanguard), Hellion (Ravager)
  • Grave Robber (Deadeye), Occultist (Warlock), Highwayman (Sharpshooter), Man-at-Arms (Vanguard)

Just keep in mind, party composition will make or break your Darkest Dungeon 2 Seething Sigh experience. Most party compositions just can’t win this fight, so when you’re going to start on this confession path, pick a party specifically with beating the Seething Sigh in mind. You need to be able to reliably deal 10+ damage to the back row and 15+ damage to the front row every single round.

Darkest Dungeon 2 Seething Sigh Boss Strategy

The basic mechanic of the Darkest Dungeon 2 Seething Sigh boss is that every round it inhales and fills up one or both lungs. If you don’t deal enough damage to the inhaling lung, it hits you with its Sundering Exultation attack, which will deal 20-30 damage to your entire party along with a ton of stress damage.

The back row lung requires 10+ damage to deflate. The front row lung requires 15+ damage to deflate.

While in previous patches, the key to this fight was to bumrush the body and take it down as quickly as possible, now that the Darkest Dungeon 2 Seething Sigh boss has been patched, you’re going to want to take down both lungs first, then focus on the body.

At the start, the Seething Sigh will only inhale using one lung, but once it reaches about 2/3rds HP, it’ll start doing Deep Breaths instead and inhale both lungs, making dealing enough damage to prevent Sundering Exultation dramatically more difficult.

In my experience, you want to focus entirely on one lung until it’s dead, only attacking the other lung to deflate it. The back lung has less HP so I usually end up taking that one out first.

If you’re able to reliably prevent the Darkest Dungeon 2 Seething Sigh from doing its Sundering Exultation attack, you mainly just have to deal with the boss attack a single character for 6-8 damage twice a round while inflicting blindness, minor stress damage, low damage burn DoTs and the occasional knockback.

Once a lung is dead, the boss’s single target attacks start hitting two characters, but it’s still not too much damage to deal with.

This fight overall is a battle of attrition. You can expect it to take 15-20 rounds.

If you’re able to, try to bring Smoke Grenades and a lot of healing potions into this fight. The fight goes on a long time so your Plague Doctor, if you brought one, it likely to run out of healing charges.

If you’re able to consistently prevent the Sundering Exultation attack, you should be able to beat this boss without too much difficulty. If you’re not, you’re probably going to struggle and wipe pretty quickly.

Rewards – Darkest Dungeon 2 Seething Sigh Boss

Confession bosses don’t give any rewards directly, but they do unlock the next available Resentment. They also give a gigantic bonus to your run’s Candles of Hope. The first time you beat it you get an extra Candle bonus.

If you’re able to beat the confession boss, you’ll end your run with around 75-80 candles.
