5 Important Outriders Tips for Beginners

If you’re new to Outriders, you’re going to want to read up on these 5 important Outriders tips. These Outriders tips will save you a lot of headache.

If you’re playing Outriders and you’re just starting out, the game is relatively self explanatory, but there are definitely a bunch of things you’re going to want someone to tell you ahead of time instead of accidentally discovering on your own 15 hours into the game like happened to me.

I’ve got a little over 120 hours in Outriders, I’ve beaten the game with every character class, and I wanted to take a few moments to tell you some of the things I’ve learned in that time that I wish I’d known when I first started playing the game. These are my top 5 important Outriders tips for beginners.

5. Don’t Hesitate to Lower World Tier – Outriders Tips for Beginners

outriders tips for beginners world tier

This is hugely important when it comes to Outriders tips for beginners. Every instinct you have is going to tell you not to ever reduce World Tier, which is the ever-increasing difficulty that persists throughout the game. Your pride is going to tell you that you should finish every encounter on the highest difficulty possible.

Here’s the thing, though. If you die a bunch of times on a single encounter, you actually lose World Tier progress. Combine that with the fact that no single encounter in the game has uniquely worthwhile rewards, and combine that again with the fact that you can level up equipment by spending Titanium, and you’ll come to the conclusion that you should have a hair trigger for lowering world tier.

If you die on a single encounter more than once, immediately drop World Tier down at least one level just so you’re not risking World Tier progress. If you keep dying, drop it down a lot and just get past the encounter, because it’s just not worth it to be stuck on any single encounter in this game. In fact, most of the most difficult bosses don’t even have rewards as far as I can tell.

There are two altered bosses you’ll probably have some difficulty with. As far as I know, neither one has rewards whatsoever. The only bosses that have good rewards are a giant boss you fight in a forest area and the final boss of the game and even those, just don’t worry about it. The weapons you pull from leveling up your World Tier are way better than anything you’re going to get from an encounter.

Preserving World Tier progress is way more important than the satisfaction of beating encounters on the highest difficulty, because if you don’t get to World Tier 14 or 15 by the end of the game, you’re going to end up having to grind that World Tier out by repeatedly running through encounters or replaying quests, and that’s a huge hassle.

Don’t lose World Tier. One of the most important Outriders tips for beginners.

4. Ammo Restoration is Super Useful – Outriders Tips for Beginners

When it comes to Outriders tips for beginners, here’s another big one. Every character class except for Devastator has a powerful ammo ability that dramatically increases firepower while also inflicting a status effect. The downside of these skills is that they’re only active for a single clip (or two if you make use of mods). However, there are a bunch of mods in Outriders that restore ammo based on various criteria.

Pyromancer gets a mod that refills ammo whenever you use its Fan the Flames skill. There are two mods that refill ammo when you kill enemies affected by Technomancer’s Blighted Rounds. There’s a fairly common mid-game weapon mod called Perpetuum Mobile that fully refills your ammo every time you get a kill with a depleted clip.

You’re going to want to make use of all of those ammo refilling mods, not only to extend the duration of your ammo abilities, but also so you don’t have to waste time reloading (which is often a death sentence on high difficulties) or looking for ammo.

Reloading and looking for ammo is a pain, and it’s for chumps, so one of the best Outriders tips for beginners is to gear up so you don’t have to do either of those things.

3. Try Out Every Class – Outriders Tips for Beginners

outriders tips for beginners classes

Speaking of Outriders tips for beginners, you probably took a look at all the different Outriders classes before you bought the game, but I’d highly recommend running each class through at least the first area before deciding which class you’re ultimately going to play through the game with. The reason is, each class has a particular feel to it that won’t necessarily match up exactly with how you imagine it in your head based on the thematic descriptions of the class.

Thought the Trickster was going to feel like a roguish character / ninja? Not really. Trickster mostly blasts faces off with shotguns. Thought Pyromancer was going to be the Outriders equivalent of a mage? Sort of, but it’s really more about using fire-augmented assault rifles for most of the game. Thought Devastator is a slow-paced tanky character? Again, sort of, but it’s actually one of the most mobile and fast-paced playstyles and it jumps all over the map.

So in terms of Outriders tips for beginners, you should really get a sense for what each character class actually plays like instead of fully committing to any particular class based off of a handful of descriptions and an association with your favorite color. Because if you pick a class that’s not fun for you, you’re going to have a bad time.

2. Level Up Gear with Good Rolls – Outriders Tips for Beginners

outriders tips for beginners item rolls

When it comes to Outriders tips for beginners, this is a big one. You probably won’t want to do this at the start of the game, but as you start getting into the later parts of the game, you’re going to want to take a serious look at the level up mechanic that’s available to you in the gear customization menu. You might get the perfect legendary weapon for your build at level 27. Don’t try to rely on that dropping again at item level 45. Upgrade it yourself.

Same goes for other pieces of gear. You see, you probably won’t pay too much attention to this at the start of the game, but armor and weapons have stats like “Close Range Damage” “Bonus Firepower” “Status Power” and other things of that nature. As you get further and further in the game, getting perfect rolls on your build becomes more important.

If you’re, for example, a Technomancer sniper, and you roll a piece of armor with Long Range Damage, Bonus Firepower and Status Power, as well as at least one top tier armor mod, don’t just replace that with some other piece of armor that has terrible rolls and a higher item level. Level that sucker up until you find something that’s actually worthy of replacing it. In other words, the rolls are more important than the item level, because you can upgrade the item level — you can’t change the rolls.

1. Mod Everything, Always – Outriders Tips for Beginners

This is definitely my biggest tip when it comes to Outriders tips for beginners. Modding weapons and armor costs almost nothing. It costs an insignificant amount of iron and leather, both resources you get an extraordinary amount of on a regular basis.

We’re talking it costs 100 or so iron to mod a weapon in a game where you’re going to be sitting on a stockpile of tens of thousands of iron that’s used for almost nothing else. So there’s absolutely nothing stopping you from modding every single piece of gear that you get.

Not only is it practically free with no downside, it’s a huge game changer in terms of your character’s general effectiveness. Mods are incredibly impactful. A lot of them have effects that are super powerful. We’re talking things like near-infinite ammo, extreme DPS increases, doubling or even tripling the amount of times you can cast a spell before it goes on cooldown, etc.

So you’re going to want to make use of mods regularly and use mods that synergize well with not only your class selection, but also your particular build. On top of that, it good to start doing this early so when you do end up getting to the difficult parts of the game and itemizing becomes very important, you’ve done all sorts of experimentation with mods so you know what mods you want in your loadout.

You can only mod one of the two slots on a piece of gear, so it’s important to know what mods to look out for because ideally you want both mod slots on a piece of gear to be a top tier mod for you.
