Final Fantasy 7 (FF7): How to Learn New Limit Breaks

If you’re playing Final Fantasy 7 (FF7), you’re going to want to know how to learn new limit breaks. The game never tells you and it doesn’t make it obvious, but once you know how to do it, you can unlock almost all the limit breaks for every character in FF7 very quickly without too much grind at all.

There are four levels of limit breaks in FF7. New levels are unlocked by killing enemies, and the second limit break in each level is unlocked by using the first one multiple times. The fourth level limit breaks are unlocked via special items you have to find through sidequests, but we’ll cover that in another post.

Since we need to do two things (kill lots of enemies and use lots of limit breaks), where can we best accomplish this? First, buy a bunch of hypers, which are available in most stores. Hypers grant the “Fury” status, which increases the rate at which your limit meter fills. Second, once you get out of Midgar and right before you go to Junon, start running around in the forest.

In the forests around Junon, you have a chance to encounter a monster called a Capparwire, which is a little bouncing thing with tentacles coming out of its head. These come in large groups and cast a spell called Grand Spark, which fills up your limit meter super fast.

Just give someone Matra Magic, Choco/Mog or an All-Combined Magic spell and go to town. Cloud needs the most kills for his level 3 limit (320), and everyone else needs less, usually around 160. Using this strategy, you can unlock all of everyone’s limit breaks before you head into Junon Harbor for the first time, including Yuffie’s (since you’ll surely recruit her running around this forest).

That about does it for learning new limit breaks in FF7. Be sure to check the Games Section for more content like this.
