– Barret is sturdy and capable of outputting consistent damage

Introduction

If you’re playing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you’re going to be facing a lot of combat challenges, some of which can be really difficult. When you’re facing some of the more intense battles, you’re going to want a party made up of all the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth best characters.

The game does a good job at encouraging you to swap around party members and try out a lot of different team compositions, but you’re still given plenty of room to develop your favorite squad.

Without further ado, this is the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth best characters tier list.

S Tier

Tifa

final fantasy 7 rebirth best characters tifa

When it comes to the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth best characters, Tifa is a fast-moving high damage beast.

The main benefit Tifa brings to the table is her ability to increase the stagger damage multiplier quickly and easily. With just a few combos she can increase the stagger damage multiplier well over 200%.

Her ability to increase the stagger damage multiplier makes Tifa indispensable on tough boss fights where the majority of damage is dealt during brief periods of stagger.

On top of that, her overall damage output is incredibly high.

Because of her ability to help melt bosses and her high damage output, Tifa deserves a spot among the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth best characters.

Aerith

final fantasy 7 rebirth best characters aerith

Aerith is the group’s resident mage when it comes to the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth best characters. Her magic power is far and away better than anybody else’s, and she’s also capable of double casting her spells with Arcane Ward.

Aerith takes a while to set up her wards, and she attacks relatively slowly, but when she’s able to send out her big nukes, they do enormous amounts of damage, eliminate most large enemies in one or two hits, and take of significant chunks of a boss’s HP.

In addition to that, most enemies get pressured when they’re struck by their elemental weakness, so Aerith, assuming you’ve set her up with a variety of offensive magic, is a huge asset in controlling the battlefield.

The main problem with Aerith is she charges ATB slowly, but once you get access to Haste and learn how to use her charge attacks that problem gets a lot better.

Aerith is definitely S Tier among the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth best characters.

A Tier

Barret

final fantasy 7 rebirth best characters barret

Barret has a ton of health, attacks at range, has an easy attack rotation and deals good, consistent damage.

The main drawback of Barret is that his magic stat is low and his MP is low, but if you’re not trying to turn him into a mage, those drawbacks are irrelevant. And there’s no need to turn Barret into a mage, because his physical attack power is good on its own.

What makes Barret really stand out, though, is the way his attacks keep him out of range of several of enemies more annoying attacks, especially attacks that interrupt or cause knockback. He also effortlessly maintains a lock on flying enemies.

Finally, several of Barret’s skills provide him with knockdown resistance or total immunity to knockdowns. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is full of such mechanics so Barret being able to outright ignore them is incredibly useful.

Despite having low magic and low MP, Barret also makes a decent support mage if you outfit him with Haste, Brave and Protect/Shell.

Because Barret deals good damage and resists a lot of knockdown mechanics, I found him to be one of the best party members when it comes to the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth best characters.

Cloud

final fantasy 7 rebirth best characters cloud

Cloud is the main character and the character you’ll most likely be controlling the lion’s share of the time while you’re playing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Cloud is pretty good. He’s a very balanced character, tuned to be above average or second best in most areas. He’s a strong damage dealer, he’s got a pretty high magic stat, his health and defensive stats are above average.

On top of that, Cloud has a pretty useful set of skills. With Focused Thrust he can increase Stagger. Braver is a great go-to damage dealing ability. Infinity’s End is a powerful nuke to use against staggered enemies.

There are also some enemy types where Cloud’s punisher mode counterattack is a big help.

Overall, Cloud is great at everything, but he doesn’t have a particular specialty where he outshines everybody else. For that reason, I think he’s a solid pick for A Tier when it comes to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth best characters.

B Tier

Yuffie

final fantasy 7 rebirth best characters yuffie

Like Tifa, Yuffie is a fast character. She doesn’t put out as much damage as Tifa overall, but she’s much more versatile. Definitely one of the better options in terms of the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth best characters.

Yuffie is able to transition between both range and melee and magic and physical attacks. Her attack and magic stats are both decent. She’s not nearly as good of a mage as Aerith or as good of an attacker as Tifa, but unlike Tifa and Aerith, Yuffie can be reasonable good at both at once.

What makes Yuffie truly useful, though, is her ability to easily hit weaknesses using her elemental jutsu ability. Between her ability to hit elemental weaknesses and decide between physical or magical damage, Yuffie is always useful because she can never be rendered ineffective.

Yuffie is great and using her is really fun. Unfortunately she’s not quite capable of the ridiculous nukes that Aerith gets, the stagger damage potential of Tifa or the sturdy reliability of Barret.

Still, she’s pretty good and a delight to use. I’m going to put her in B Tier in terms of the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth best characters.

C Tier

Red XIII

final fantasy 7 rebirth best characters red xiii

Red XIII is a cool character with an interesting variety of skills. The main issue I have with Red XIII is that Vengeance Mode is a little clunky in execution.

Red XIII powers up his Vengeance meter by blocking, and then is able to unleash a variety of skills.

In practice, this usually means when you swap to Red XIII when he’s on your team, usually he has some Vengeance meter to spend, and when you’re playing as him, you have to sit around and wait for a while holding the block button to get Vengeance when you want it.

So Vengeance sounds good on paper but is a bit of a clunky resource to collect compared to what other characters have to do. When you do have it, though, you can spend it on a full party heal, a full party Haste, or a handful of other interesting utility skills.

Red’s heal is surprisingly useful, but other than that he doesn’t particularly stand out. He’s decently sturdy and has ok damage output.

I’d rank him as usable but not exciting, and that puts him at C Tier when it comes to the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth best characters.

D Tier

Cait Sith

final fantasy 7 rebirth best characters cait sith

Cait Sith is the worst of the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth party members, which is unfortunate because he’s so much more likable in this iteration than in the original.

One thing Cait Sith does have going for him is that, like Yuffie, he can choose whether to use magic or physical attacks. That does give him some decent utility that comes in handy every once in a while. Yuffie is much, much better at it, but it’s still a useful ability to have.

Like Red XIII, Cait Sith’s mechanic is a little bit convoluted. He can summon the Moogle and use the Moogle to do various things. Even with the Moogle, Cait Sith feels a little underpowered so it’s kind of unfortunate he needs to spend ATB meter to even get going.

Cait Sith’s not terrible. He’s definitely usable, and you could always outfit him with a bunch of high powered materia and turn him into a sturdy battle mage. But if you play a little with Tifa and then play with Cait Sith you will notice a difference in their overall effectiveness.

Because Cait Sith feels a little underpowered and like he needs to take an extra turn to get going, I’m placing him in C Tier when it comes to the Final Fantasy 7 best characters.

Conclusion – Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Best Characters Tier List

When it comes to the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth best characters, you can’t go wrong with the original four: Tifa, Aerith, Cloud and Barret.

Newcomers Red XIII, Yuffie and Cait Sith add a lot and especially Red XIII and Yuffie are able to hold their own in combat, but it’s this humble writer’s opinion that Tifa, Aerith and Barret are the top class in terms of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth best characters.

Now, all of that said, I do think the tier list in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is somewhat flat. Tifa is definitely better than Cait Sith, but Cait Sith is not unusable.

That about does it when it comes to the ULTIMATE Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Best Characters Tier List.
