Dragon Age Inquisition Best Weapons for EVERY Class

This Dragon Age Inquisition Best Weapons Guide will teach you the best weapons for EVERY class so you can deck your characters out in all the best gear.

If you’re playing Dragon Age Inquisition, you’re going to want to know what all the best gear in the game is. Of course, you’re absolutely going to want to make sure to get all the best weapons for everyone in your party. This Dragon Age Inquisition Best Weapons guide is going to teach you which weapons and schematics you need to be on the lookout for.

A character’s class is the biggest factor in determining what the best weapon is going to be for that character. Additionally, the vast majority of the Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons are crafted, so I’ll be sure to tell you what crafting ingredients you’ll want to use and where you can most easily find them.

Now, with that introduction out of the way, onto the Dragon Age Inquisition Best Weapons Guide.

Rogues – Dragon Age Inquisition Best Weapons

Archer Rogue – Dragon Age Inquisition Best Weapons

You actually have a couple of options when it comes to an Archer Rogue.

dragon age inquisition best weapons elgar'nan enaste
Elgar’nan Enaste

Ultimately, the best bow is the Elgar’nan Enaste, but that bow is only available towards the end of the Trespasser DLC, meaning it’s only realistically available in a New Game+ playthrough via the Golden Nug.

The next best Bow is Hakkon’s Wrath, which is also a fairly late-game schematic, but you can probably get your hands on it around level 19 or 20 if you know what you’re doing. It involves getting to the end of the main quest in the Jaws of Hakkon storyline which, if I’m being honest, is probably the most fun zone in the game so you’ll want to do that anyway.

dragon age inquisition best weapons grunsmann's bow
Grunsmann’s Bow

Finally, your 3rd option is purchased in the Black Emporium for 12156 gold, and it’s the Grunsmann’s Bow with a Thick Longbow Grip, which can be bought in Suledin Keep in Emprise du Lion for 934 gold.

The difference between these weapons is not that significant. What separates Elgar’nan Enaste from the pack is it has a unique ability that causes its arrows from regular attacks to explode an do AoE damage, which gives it the greatest damage potential.

Assuming you’re going mainly for crit on your weapon, and you’re not duping extra Ice Dragon materials, the best stats for these bows will be as follows:

Elgar’nan Enaste

  • Damage: 166
  • 24 Cunning (Imbued Tusket Hide)
  • 35% Critical Chance (Great Bear Hide)
  • 12% Attack (Ice Dragon Bone)
  • Superb Rune: +25 Damage
  • Explosive Arrows

Hakkon’s Wrath

  • Damage: 166
  • 59% Critical Chance (20x Great Bear Hide, 12x Ice Dragon Hide)
  • 16% Attack (Ice Dragon Bone)
  • Superb Rune: +25 Damage

Grunsmann’s Bow + Thick Longbow Grip

  • Damage: 166
  • 59% Critical Chance (14x Ice Dragon Hide, 18x Great Bear Hide)
  • 21% Critical Damage (6x Imbued Tusket Hide)
  • Superb Rune: +25 Damage

Dual Wield Rogue – Dragon Age Inquisition Best Weapons

stonestalker Dragon Age Inquisition Best Weapons for EVERY Class
Stone Stalker Blade

Unlike Archer Rogues, there isn’t a virtual 3-way tie for the best dual wield daggers. The Stone Stalker Blade, which is found randomly in chests in the Deep Roads is the undisputed best dagger in the game. It has the highest damage and the most offense slots. No other dagger comes close.

The best way to get the schematic for this dagger is honestly just to save scum chests in the Deep Roads. To do this easily, fast travel to an area where there are a few unopened chests in close proximity. Save immediately, go check the chests, and if it’s not there, reload. This could take several hours. Be prepared.

If you don’t have the Descent DLC, the next best thing is the Blade of Red Birth which is bought from the Black Emporium for 8478 gold. The Blade of Red Birth wins out over other Tier 4 daggers because it has an extra offense slot. Its stat bonuses are way better than the Stone Stalker’s Blade, so that’s something ot keep in mind.

Here are the stats for a well build Stone Stalker Blade and Dagger of Red Birth so you can compare.

Stone Stalker Blade

  • Damage: 174
  • 24% Attack (Ice Dragon Bone)
  • 8% Critical Chance (Ice Dragon Hide)
  • Superb Rune: +25 Damage

Blade of Red Birth

  • Damage: 149
  • 22% Critical Chance (Ice Dragon Hide)
  • 12% Attack (Ice Dragon Bone)
  • 6 Dexterity (Ice Dragon Hide)
  • Superb Rune: +25 Damage

Rogue Itemization & Materials – Dragon Age Inquisition Best Weapons

Now, when it comes to Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons, your ideal weapons might look a little different than what’s presented here. In general, depending on your Rogue specialization, you’ll want to itemize differently for a Rogue.

Assassins want a lot of crit damage and attack and don’t need much, if any, crit chance on their Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons, so you’ll want to use Imbued Tusket Hides rather than Great Bear Hides for your offensive leather slots. They’ll also want Dexterity rather than Cunning, which means using Ice Dragon Hides or Snoufleur Skins in leather utility slots.

Artificers want 70-80% crit on their Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons to keep their cooldowns refreshed constantly, and they should likely use pretty much the same weapon recipes listed here. You only need a total of about 50%-60% crit chance from equipment, since the Rogue’s natural cunning will put the crit chance over 75%+ from that point.

When it comes to Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons for Tempests, they want a balanced weapon with about 40-60% crit and the rest in crit damage and attack. The Elgar’nan Enaste is almost certainly the best choice for them since they’ll be using their regular attack a lot more than other classes.

Another thing to keep in mind is you only get 14 Ice Dragon Hides to use on your Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons across all characters, so you’ll want to make sure that you use them in such a way that you can use every single one. For that reason, it’s better to use Great Bear Hides for Hakkon’s Wrath rather than having 2 leftover Ice Dragon Hides that can’t be used in any recipe.

When crafting the Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons for Rogues, the main materials you’ll want to be on the lookout for are:

  • Great Bear Hides
  • Ice Dragon Hides
  • Snoufleur Skins
  • Imbued Tusket Hides
  • Ice Dragon Bone
  • Stormheart

Great Bear Hides are dropped from Great Bears most commonly found in Emerald Graves and more rarely in Emprise du Lion. Snoufleur Skins drop from Snoufleurs in Emprise du Lion and the Exalted Plains.

Stormheart can be found early in the Flooded Caves in Crestwood and later in the Emerald Graves. Each of these materials can also be purchased from the Black Emporium, the materials shop from the Descent DLC or the materials shop from the post-game Trespasser DLC.

Imbued Tusket Hides drop from Imbued Tuskets in Swamp Kuldsdotten in Frostback Basin. Ice Dragon Hides and Ice Dragon Bones are a one time drop from Hakkon and no more can be obtained without cheats or exploits.

Best Masterworks for Rogue Weapons

For Rogues there are two masterworks that are in demand: Hidden Blades (5x attacks) and Guard On-Hit.

If you’re using an Archer Rogue, you get two slots, one from weapons and one from armor. In that case you’ll want Hidden Blades (5x Attacks), which comes from Fade-Touched Plush Fustian Velvet, and +5 Guard On-Hit, which comes from Fade-Touched Silverite.

If you’re using a Dual Wield Rogue, you get an extra masterwork slot, which you should fill with +3 Guard On-Hit, which comes from Fade-Touched Obsidian.

Now, there are two ways to get Fade-Touched versions of materials. Either you farm them normally, which will take a really, really long time, or you use abuse a common exploit in Dragon Age Inquisition, which is that chests and loot piles from Rifts refresh their contents after zoning out if you don’t fully loot them.

The second method is much easier. Fade-Touched Obsidian is available in a refreshable chest in Redcliffe in the Hinterlands behind a locked door. Fade-Touched Silverite is available in a refreshable Rift loot pile southwest of the camp near Kuldsdotten Swamp in Frostback Basin. Fade-Touched Plush Fustian Velvet can be looted from the chest behind the eastern floor puzzle in Razikale’s Reach during the main quest in Frostback Basin.

If you choose to go with the farming method, the best place to farm Obsidian is the Crow Fens in the Exalted Plains. Silverite is most readily found in Emprise du Lion, and Plush Fustian Velvet drops off of Red Templars in Emprise du Lion.

Your Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons won’t be complete without a Masterwork, so be sure to keep that in mind when you’re building them.

Warriors – Dragon Age Inquisition Best Weapons

Two-Handed Warriors – Dragon Age Inquisition Best Weapons

Chromatic greatsword Dragon Age Inquisition Best Weapons for EVERY Class
Chromatic Greatsword

For Two-Handed Warriors, the best weapon is hands-down the Chromatic Greatsword but, like the Elgar’nan Enaste bow, it’s only available at the very, very end of the Trespasser DLC, so realistically it’s a New Game+ weapon.

The Chromatic Greatsword’s unique mechanics are a little complicated, but they’re also the reason it’s the best weapon. Every swing of this weapon, including special abilities, deals double damage in the form of a second hit with random elemental damage.

However, where it gets a little complicated is this: the Chromatic Greatsword’s normal attacks deal 50% damage, but the elemental damage of the extra hit is equal to 100% damage. So normal attacks do 150% damage.

To make it simple, with the Chromatic Greatsword, normal attacks deal 150% damage and abilities deal 200% damage.

The runner-up when it comes to Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons for two-handed warriors is the Prismatic Greataxe, which is almost as good as the Chromatic Greatsword, but can be gotten much, much earlier. All you need to do to get the Prismatic Greataxe recipe is complete the Learn More about Dragons War Table mission with the Trespasser DLC active.

The difference between these two weapons is not huge. The Chromatic Greatsword is a modest upgrade. The Chromatic Greatsword gets moderately better crafting slots and higher damage, but the Prismatic Greataxe doesn’t have the 50% damage penalty that the Chromatic Greatsword does.

Still, because during endgame your Warrior, especially if it’s a Reaver, is getting the majority of its damage from abilities, the 50% damage penalty on normal attacks isn’t that big a deal. The Chromatic Greatsword still wins out, but like I said, it’s a modest upgrade.

Axe of the Dragon Hunter Dragon Age Inquisition Best Weapons for EVERY Class
Axe of the Dragon Hunter

If you don’t have the Trespasser DLC, your best option is Axe of the Dragon Hunter (Black Emporium, 15356 gold) with a Masterwork Engraved Two-Handed Haft (Random Tier 3 Chest) and a Masterwork Dense Pommel (Random Tier 3 Chest).

The best way to get the haft and pommel is to save scum tier 3 chests. Just find 2-3 tier 3 chests near each other and zone in and check them repeatedly until they have what you want. Avoid fully looting chests.

Assuming you’re focusing on Strength, Crit and +Attack, here is what top end versions of each of these Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons options will look like stat-wise so you can compare:

Chromatic Greatsword

  • Damage: 279
  • 40% Attack (Ice Dragon Bone)
  • 24% Critical Chance (Ice Dragon Hide)
  • 10 Strength (Stormheart)
  • Superb Rune: +25 Damage
  • Deals additional random elemental damage

Prismatic Greataxe

  • Damage: 256
  • 32% Attack (Ice Dragon Bone)
  • 42% Critical Damage (Dragon Webbing)
  • 12 Strength (Ice Dragon Bone)
  • Deals additional random elemental damage

Axe of the Dragon Hunter + Masterwork Engraved Haft/Masterwork Dense Pommel

  • Damage: 279
  • 73% Attack (20x Ice Dragon Bone, 19x Stormheart)
  • 29% Critical Chance (12x Ice Dragon Hide, 3x Great Bear Hide)
  • 10 Strength (Stormheart)
  • Superb Rune: +25 Damage

Weapon and Shield Warriors – Dragon Age Inquisition Best Weapons

If you’re using a weapon and shield warrior, it’s most likely your tank, so you’re going to keep that in mind when you itemize your Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons.

dragon age inquisition best weapons revered defender longsword
Revered Defender Longsword

The best one handed weapons both come from the Descent DLC. The first is the Revered Defender Longsword, which is found in random chests in the Deep Roads (save scum chests by zoning in and out without looting their contents). The second is the Valos Atredum, which is gained upon completion of the side quest “On Broken Knees.”

Note that unlike most other pieces of equipment in this guide, Valos Atredum is not a crafted weapon. Its stats are set. It’s essentially just a Revered Defender Longsword that gets a significant amount of Strength.

If you don’t have the Descent DLC, your best best when it comes to Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons for a tank is the Mortalitasi Firm Club, which is bought from the Black Emporium for 6078 gold, equipped with a Masterwork Balanced One-Handed Haft, which is found randomly in Tier 3 chests.

The Trespasser DLC implements a few high-end tanking weapons with unique effects, but although they’re very popular, I don’t think they’re worthwhile. One has a high (31%) stagger chance but no other stats and the other randomly gives 3 moderately useless party-wide buffs and has some moderate defensive stats.

Both of these effects are outperformed by crafted Masterwork effects, not to mention their lack of stats. Neither is a schematic, and so can’t be carried over into a new game via the Golden Nug.

Out of all the available one-handed Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons options, the Revered Defender Longsword is almost always the best for a tank.

Here are the stats of these Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons when fully crafted with high-end materials for you to compare:

Revered Defender Longsword

  • Damage: 223
  • 36% Stagger On-Hit (Silverite)
  • 15% Sunder On-Hit (Wyvern Scales)
  • Superb Rune: +25 Damage

Valos Atredum

  • Damage: 224
  • 10% Critical Damage
  • 6% Stagger On-Hit
  • 27 Strength
  • Superb Rune: +25 Damage
  • On-Hit: Gain 5 Guard (Note this is identical to the Silverite Masterwork bonus which you can put on either of the other crafted weapon options)

Mortalitasi Firm Club + Masterwork Balanced Haft

  • Damage: 200
  • 40% Stagger On-Hit (Silverite)
  • 5% Attack (Plush Fustian Velvet)
  • Superb Rune: +25 Damage

Warrior Itemization & Materials – Dragon Age Inquisition Best Weapons

Unlike Rogues, where every specialization is looking for different stats, when it comes to the Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons for Warriors, you only really need to consider if you’re primarily a DPS Warrior or a tank.

DPS Warriors are going to want Attack, Crit Chance, Strength and Crit Damage in roughly that order of priority on their Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons.

Meanwhile, for their Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons, tanks are going to be looking for Stagger on-Hit, Sunder On-Hit, Health, Melee Defense and Ranged Defense. Maybe a little bit of Attack, Crit Chance and Strength if you want a little more offense on your tank.

Here are the materials you’re going to want to keep an eye out for when building your Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons if you’re a DPS Warrior:

  • Ice Dragon Bone
  • Stormheart
  • Everite
  • Great Bear Hide
  • Ice Dragon Hide

Here are the materials you’ll be looking out for on your Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons if you’re a tank:

  • Silverite
  • Dragon Webbing
  • Plush Fustian Velvet

Stormheart is easily obtained early on in the Flooded Caves in Crestwood. It can also be found in the Emeral Graves. Everite is commonly found in Emprise du Lion, Emerald Graves and Frostback Basin.

Great Bear Hide is dropped by Great Bears most commonly found in Emerald Graves, also available in Emprise du Lion.

Silverite is most easily gathered in Emprise du Lion and Frostback Basin. Dragon Webbing is dropped by High Dragons. Plush Fustian Velvet is dropped by Red Templars in Emprise du Lion.

All of those materials can also be purchased at the Black Emporium or the materials shop in the Descent DLC.

Ice Dragon Bone and Ice Dragon Hide are both dropped by Hakkon. One thing you should be aware of is that unless you cheat, you only get 22 Ice Dragon Bones and 14 Hides. Bones are best used for Warrior gear, but you might want to let your party’s Rogue have the hides.

Best Masterworks for Warrior Weapons

Whether you’re a DPS Warrior or a Tank, you’re probably going to want to stack Guard On-Hit on your gear.

For a DPS Warrior, you can either stack +5 Guard On-Hit (Fade-Touched Silverite) and +3 Guard On-Hit (Fade-Touched Obsidian) on your Weapon/Armor or +5 Guard On-Hit on your armor and a critical crafting Masterwork (Essece of Perfection/Dragon’s Tooth) on your weapon. I’d recommend the latter, especially if you’re using the Chromatic Greatsword.

For a Tank Warrior, you’ll have 3 Masterwork slots to work with. I’d recommend +5 Guard On-Hit (Fade-Touched Silverite), +3 Guard On-Hit (Fade-Touched Obsidian) and 10% Chance for Walking Fortress On-Hit (Fade-Touched Everite)

Fade-Touched Obsidian is available in a refreshable chest in Redcliffe in the Hinterlands behind a locked door. Fade-Touched Silverite is available in a refreshable Rift loot pile southwest of the camp near Kuldsdotten Swamp in Frostback Basin.

If you choose to go with the farming method, the best place to farm Obsidian is the Crow Fens in the Exalted Plains. Silverite is most readily found in Emprise du Lion. Everite can be found in Emprise du Lion, Frostback Basin and the Emerald Graves.

Dragon Teeth drop from High Dragons. Essence of Perfection is gotten from the side quest Fears of the Dreamers while in the Fade during Here Lies the Abyss.

Your Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons won’t be complete without a Masterwork, so be sure to keep that in mind when you’re building them.

Mages – Dragon Age Inquisition Best Weapons

Best Mage Weapons

Unlike Warriors and Rogues, Mages don’t vary in their itemization requirements based on specialization when it comes to their Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons. As a result, when it comes to choosing the Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons for Mages, you’ll always be looking for the same weapons every playthrough.

In addition to that, Mage Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons also don’t have a lot of competition. There is a definitive best weapon and, if you don’t have the appropriate DLC, a definitive best weapon for the vanilla game.

dragon age inquisition best weapons encore staff
Encore Staff

The best weapon for all Mages in Dragon Age Inquisition is the Encore staff, which is found by completing a side quest in the Trespasser DLC where you collect a series of Halla statues.

Unlike the other bard weapon that Warriors get, the Encore’s party-wide buffs are actually very powerful and include double damage on attacks, increased attack speed and lifesteal.

The only problem with the Encore staff is that Trespasser is a sort of post-game epilogue, so you won’t have access to the Encore staff until you’ve already beaten the game, making it more of a New Game+ weapon than anything else.

That means for the majority of the game, or if you don’t have the Trespasser DLC, the Staff of Corruption is the best weapon, which can easily be acquired very early in the game by purchasing it at the Black Emporium for 16956 gold.

Here is a comparison of the stats on these two Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons options using high-end crafting materials:

Encore + Masterwork Archon Staff Blade/Masterwork Battlemage Staff Grip

  • Damage: 77
  • 82% Attack (31x Plush Fustian Velvet, 14x Ice Dragon Bone)
  • Superb Rune: +25 Damage
  • On Hit: Chance to sing an offensive buff for allies within 8 meters

Staff of Corruption

  • Damage: 77
  • 59% Attack (20x Plush Fustian Velvet, 14x Ice Dragon Bone)
  • 12% Critical Chance (Ice Dragon Hide)
  • Superb Rune: +25 Damage

Mage Itemization & Materials – Dragon Age Inquisition Best Weapons

You might think Magic is the best stat for Mages, but all the Magic stat does is translate to Attack at a rate of 0.5 Attack for each point of Magic. On top of that, neither the Encore nor the Staff of Corruption even have Utility slots where Magic could be added.

Mages also don’t get too much benefit out of critical chance or critical damage, so when it comes to crafting the Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons for Mages, you’re mostly looking at stacking Attack and maybe adding a little bit of critical chance if Attack isn’t available for that specific slot, such as on the Staff of Corruption with its leather Offense slot.

The materials you’re looking for on a Mage are:

  • Plush Fustian Velvet
  • Stormheart
  • Great Bear Hide
  • Ice Dragon Bone
  • Ice Dragon Hide

Plush Fustian Velvet drops off of Red Templars in Emprise du Lion. Stormheart is easily found early in the Flooded Caves in Crestwood and is also found later on in the Emerald Graves.

Great Bear Hide is dropped off of Great Bears found in Emerald Graves and Emprise du Lion.

All of those materials are also available for purchase at the Black Emporium and the Deep Roads materials shop.

Ice Dragon Bone and Ice Dragon Hide drop off of Hakkon in Frostback Basin, but honestly I wouldn’t recommend using them for your mage weapon unless you’re cheating to get extra copies of them. You only get 22 bones and 14 hides, and they’re both much better utilized by a Warrior (for the bones) or a Rogue (for the hides).

Plus, whether you’re making a New Game+ Encore staff or a Staff of Corruption, you can easily make a nearly perfectly crafted staff fairly early in the game with Plush Fustian Velvet, Stormheart and Great Bear Hides as soon as you get your hands on enough Dragon Bone (the regular kind) to make a Tier 4 staff.

Best Masterworks for Mage Weapons

Mages, especially Knight Enchanters, don’t really need the Guard On-Hit tht most other characters covet. As a result they can stack 2 damaging spell procs on their gear between their weapon and their armor.

The best spell proc is, hands down, the 5x Hidden Blades proc found on Fade-Touched Plush Fustian Velvet. Other good options are 100% damage Chain Lightning (Fade-Touched Silverite) and Walking Bomb (Fade-Touched Dawnstone).

Fade-Touched Plush Fustian Velvet can be farmed from a chest in the northwest part of Frostback Basin that becomes available during the course of the main Jaws of Hakkon quest. It’s in a temple on the righthand side of a floor tile puzzle.

Fade-Touched Dawnstone can be found in some of the Rift loot piles in Frostback Basin.

Fade-Touched Silverite can also be found in some of the Rift piles in Frostback Basin, namely the Rift to the southwest of the camp near Kuldsdotten Swamp, although that particular Silverite might always be the Guard version.

Otherwise, Plush Fustian Velvet drops off of Red Templars in Emprise du Lion, and Dawnstone and Silverite can both be found throughout Emprise du Lion.

Your Dragon Age Inquisition best weapons won’t be complete without a Masterwork, so be sure to keep that in mind when you’re building them.

Whew, that about covers it when it comes to the Dragon Age Inquisition Best Weapons for Every Class. Be sure to check out the Games Section or the Main Page for more game guides, and click here for more content related to Dragon Age Inquisition.
