Pillars of Eternity 2 Best Monk Build in PoE2

This Pillars of Eternity 2 Best Monk Build guide will teach you everything you need to know in order to make the most insanely overpowered Monk character possible in PoE2.

If you’re playing Pillars of Eternity 2 (PoE2) as a Monk, you’re going to want to know the best possible, most OP build you can make in the game so that you can breeze through the story and decimate your foes. This guide has you covered. I’ll tell you everything you need to know about how to make a Monk build in PoE2 that’s so over the top powerful it can’t possibly get any stronger.

Race – Pillars of Eternity 2 Best Monk Build

Nature Godlike is the best race for a Monk by a huge margin because it gains a power level increase when affected by an inspiration and not only are Monks affected by inspirations constantly, their fists scale directly by power level. A Nature Godlike is capable of achieving higher power levels than any other race.

Subclass – Pillars of Eternity 2 Best Monk Build

You have a couple of options with subclasses for Monk, but this build is all about having the best Monk possible, so we’re going to go with Nalpazca, which generates wounds when you have drugs. This means you’ll need to be chugging drugs throughout the game, which is a bit of a chore. If you don’t want to do that, go with a pure monk. But Nalpazca, when taking drugs, is undeniably stronger than the pure Monk.

The best drugs to take are Ripple Sponge (+3 PER, INT and RES) and Taru Turu Chew (+3 MIG, CON and DEX). Taru Turu Chew would be hands down better, but Perception scales better (especially with Monk) because it adds crit chance, so they end up being about equal.

Multiclass or Single Class?

For the Monk, you’re definitely going to want to go with a single-class for the increased power level, Prestige and the endgame skills.

Attributes – Pillars of Eternity 2 Best Monk Build

If you’re going to min-max your stats, it’s best to use RES as a dump stat. In terms of priorities, PER is the highest priority since it gives accuracy and crit chance, followed by DEX and MIG. The name of the game is to max out PER, DEX and MIG as much as possible without hurting CON or INT too much. Here’s what I recommend:

Might: 18
Constitution: 12
Dexterity: 18
Perception: 18
Intelligence: 8
Resolve: 3

Then, for your place origin, choose The White that Wends for the +1 Perception bonus, giving 19 total Perception.

Weapons – Pillars of Eternity 2 Best Monk Build

For your weapons, you’ll want to leave your main hand empty and equip Tuotilo’s Palm in your offhand. Tuotilo’s Palm is a small shield that counts as an unarmed weapon. Its base damage is lower than a standard fist, so you take a slight hit to damage, but it benefits from all the power scaling that the Monk has for its normal fists.

What you gain for this tradeoff in damage is: increased Wound generation, shield deflection, +1 Deflection/Reflex per Wound stacked, and +5 Accuracy (or +10% Damage) with unarmed attacks. This thing is wild. Not only that, it benefits from both Two Weapon Style and Weapon and Shield Style.

Armor/Accessories – Pillars of Eternity 2 Best Monk Build

For your armor slot, I recommend the Miscreant Leathers, which are generally considered to be the best DPS armor due to high attack speed and lots of dodge/reflex bonuses.

As for your other slots, there are so many options that it’s up to your discretion, but here are some recommendations:

Head: The Maw of Ingimyrk (+2 Perception)
Amulet: Cog of Cohh (+5% Damage, +5 PER on Kill)
Cloak: Violet Redemption (Up to 10% Attack Speed/Damage bonus)
Gloves: Gatecrashers (+1 Might, 15% chance to stun on Crit)
Ring 1: Ring of Prosperity’s Fortune (+15% Crit Chance at 200k+ gold)
Ring 2: Kuaru’s Prize (+1 Perception, +1 Intelligence)
Boots: Boots of the Stone (+1 DEX, +1 RES)
Belt: The Undying Burden (Up to 10% damage reduction, +2 CON)

Abilities – Pillars of Eternity 2 Best Monk Build

Your core abilities are:

  • Swift Strikes
  • Turning Wheel
  • Lesser Wounds
  • Two Weapon Style
  • Weapon and Shield Style
  • Thunderous Blows
  • Shared Pain
  • Heartbeat Drumming
  • Prestige

Beyond that, take whichever skills you like.
