If you’re using Cinderace in Pokemon Sword & Shield you’re going to want to know what the best moveset and build is. Cinderace is arguably the best of the starters and he’s still an incredibly potent pokemon.

This Pokemon Sword & Shield Cinderace Moveset guide will teach you all you need to know to turn your starter Cinderace into an absolute powerhouse.

Pokemon sword & shield cinderace moveset build

Nature – Pokemon Sword & Shield Cinderace Moveset

Jolly (+Speed, -Special Attack) is the nature you’re going to want for your Cinderace.

He’s already quite fast, but the Jolly nature should help him outspeed any threats that come his way.

Ability – Pokemon Sword & Shield Cinderace Moveset

Libero is surely the better of Cinderace’s abilities, but it’s currently unavailable, so you’re stuck with Blaze. Lucky for you, Blaze is… pretty useless overall. Don’t worry about it.

Held Item – Pokemon Sword & Shield Cinderace Moveset

Once you get to the Tournament section of the game where you’re competing against more inventive builds that are informed by the meta, you’re going to want to equip Cinderace with the Heavy-Duty Boots to make him invulnerable to entry hazards.

This is because Cinderace has a special role to play in reversing entry hazards due to his unique move, Court Change.

Up to that point you’ll mostly use him just for his physical power and speed, spamming Pyro Ball to win fights quickly, so you may as well equip a Charcoal.

Moves – Pokemon Sword & Shield Cinderace Moveset

Here’s what you’re going to want to put on in your Cindace’s moveset in Pokemon Sword and Shield:

  • Court Change
  • Pyro Ball
  • High Jump Kick
  • U-Turn

Court Change allows Cinderace to deal with all sorts of dangerous entry hazards like Spikes, and it’s a move unique to him, so you might as well take advantage of the utility this gives him.

Pyro Ball is Cinderace’s signature attack move and it’s very powerful. You should definitely take advantage of it.

High Jump Kick gives Cinderace another powerful attack that can usually OHKO pokemon that are resistant to the fire elemental Pyro Ball.

U-Turn provides Cinderace additional utility by allowing him to switch in and out of battles at will, giving little downside to bringing him in to dispose of entry hazards even when the situation is dicey.

Before you get to endgame, you may want to add some more type coverage moves and just use Cinderace as a physical sweeper for the main story.

He has a great movepool that includes a lot of options like Bounce, Zen Headbutt and Gunk Shot. However, you’re not giving up too much sweeping potential by optimizing Cinderace’s utility with Court Change and U-Turn, so keep that in mind. 99% of the time, Pyro Ball and High Jump Kick is enough.

Cinderace Moveset Conclusion

Cinderace is a unique pokemon that provides a lot of utility in Pokemon Sword & Shield.

He’s arguably the best starter available, he’s useful throughout the game as a fast, physical damage dealer, and in the endgame he has a lot of unique utility in his ability to reverse entry hazards via Court Change.

Definitely a recommended pokemon for any team.

That about covers it when it comes to the best Pokemon Sword & Shield Cinderace Moveset. Be sure to check out the Games Section for more articles like this and click here for more game guides for Pokemon Sword and Shield.
