Without further ado, here is the Bravely Default 2 Best Weapons & Equipment Guide.
Bravely Default 2 Best Weapons
The Bravely Default 2 best weapons are, by far, the weapons dropped by the powered up asterisk bosses in the Halls of Tribulation areas you find scattered around the world map.
Why? Each of the Bravely Default 2 best weapons dropped by an asterisk boss in the Halls of Tribulation gives the character who equips it all the passive abilities that job learns as you level it up. Not the specialties, the actual abilities. So, for instance, Phantom’s unique dagger will automatically give the character that equips it Dual Wield, Critical Amp, etc.
The stats among each of the Bravely Default 2 best weapons in each weapon type are roughly a tie. All the best swords have around 130-140 attack, for example. So the real difference comes from which job the weapon grants abilities for.
Here is a list of all these special job-ability granting weapons:

Choosing Among Bravely Default 2 Best Weapons
So, which of these endgame weapons are actually the Bravely Default 2 best weapons? The answer lies in which jobs give you the best abilities.
Keep in mind that equipping one of the Bravely Default 2 best weapons frees up ability slots, so while one job may have a single excellent ability, it’s better to equip a weapon from a job that gives you 4 medium abilities because it allows you to make the best use of all your ability slots.
In terms of granting abilities, these are the jobs that you get the most out of unlocking all their abilities for free:
- Vengeance Dagger (Phantom) gives Dual Wield, Critical Amp and Frenetic Fighting, which are all fantastic for physical attackers and will save you 3 ability slots.
- Sword of Light (Bravebearer) gives Sub-Job Specialty 2, which is just generally one of the best abilities around, especially when it comes to activating the Freelancer stat boost or the permanent Spiritmaster spirits. As a bonus you get Obliterate so you don’t have to swap out abilities if you decide you want to kill trash monsters.
- Darksoul Sword (Hellblade) gives Surpassing Power, which saves a slot on any character that can regularly hit for over 9999 damage.
- Crescent Cane (Arcanist) gives MP Regen and Magic Amp, which are both must-have skills for offensive mages. This is probably the best overall staff for mages.
- Hysteriax (Berserker) gives Unshakeable Will, which is almost a free Ribbon, as well as Indiscriminate Rage, which is a great ability. As a bonus you also get Axe Lore, so this axe can be used by any job. Probably the best axe available overall.
- Givampalui (Thief) gives the most overall free ability slots because Thief has the most passive abilities. Equipping this one item will let you mug rare items and get two copies, which normally requires at least three ability slots. You also get Dagger Lore, so this dagger can be equipped on any job.
- Ringmaster’s Spear (Beastmaster) has great abilities, but they’re not usually abilities you want all at once. Brute Force is a must-have on physical attackers and MP Saver is great for mages, but usually you don’t put them both on the same character. Still, not a bad basket of abilities at all.
- Fallen Angel’s Harp (Bard) Only Epic Group-Cast is really useful, but if you’re gearing a healer it’s one of very few absolutely must-have abilities and you can get from this staff for free.
- Maidenhair Staff (White Mage) The Maidenhair Staff just very simply gets the most Restorative Power and, like I mentioned, healers don’t have that many must-have abilities. You can just equip Epic Group-Cast by itself.
Those are the best overall. In my opinion the best of the Bravely Default 2 best weapons would be the Vengeance Dagger, the Crescent Cane, the Sword of Light and the Darksoul Sword. However, it depends on your team’s setup. If you want a dual wielding Swordmaster, for instance, you’ll want to use both daggers to activate the second Swordmaster specialty, which gives Sub-Specialty 2 for free.

Bravely Default 2 Best Equipment – Shields
The best shields in Bravely Default 2 are, like the Bravely Default 2 best weapons, dropped by optional Asterisk bosses. However, unlike the weapons, the Bravely Default 2 best shields are the best simply because of their stats and their on-use effects.
Here are the Bravely Default 2 best shields:
- Shield of Clemency:
Effect When Used: Double Default
Weight +27 / HP +880 / MP +170
Physical Defense + 104 / Magical Defense +106 / Restorative Power +25
Speed -13 / Aim +12 / Evasion +14
Critical Chance +5 / Chance of Being Targeted +46
- Bullhead Shield:
Effect When Used: Enrage
Weight +24 / Physical Attack +13 / Physical Defense +87
Magical Defense +78 / Speed -10 / Aim -10
Evasion -11 / Critical Chance +3 / Chance of Being Targeted +88
The Shield of Clemency has much better defensive stats, but the Bullhead shield has better tanking utility between Enrage on-use and its higher chance of being targeted. If you don’t need the extra defense, I’d say go with the Bullhead Shield.
Shield of Clemency is a common drop from Lonsdale in the Halls of Tribulation I near Halcyonia. Bullhead Shield is a common drop from Dag in the Halls of Tribulation VI in Holograd.

- Sensei’s Badge
Weight +4 / Physical Attack +10 / Aim +8
