Recruitment – Fae Tactics Red

To unlock Red, visit the Ashen Plains on a Monday (Fire Day) with a level 3 motorbike or higher. You’ll come across an unmarked story mission to rescue a character wearing a red robe. Complete this mission and you’ll unlock a follow-up story mission on the Ashen Plains.

In the second Ashen Plains mission, the enemies will be attempting to summon the “Crimson King” using a ritual device in the middle of the map. In order to unlock Red, move Peony to the southeast side of the device and interact with it. Red, the “Crimson King,” will appear and join your party. From then on, he’ll be available to use in your party.

Abilities – Fae Tactics Red

Ultra Skills

Like every other leader character in Fae Tactics Red gets both an Ultra Attack Skill and an Ultra Assist Skill. For Red, these are:

  • Ultra Attack: Soul Drinker
Gains a portion of the target’s Max Hp and Atk on kill.
  • Ultra Assist: Marauder
    Enchants all allies with Rage.

EX Skill

Like other leaders in Fae Tactics Red can use a portion of his ultra orbs to perform an EX skill. For Red, the skill is:

  • Rampage: Gains another turn if the target is killed. (Costs 2 Ultra)

Passive Bonuses

Like most characters in Fae Tactics Red has a variety of character-specific bonuses that he gets regardless of which weapon he’s using. For Red, these are:

  • +50% Damage if Cursed

Weapons – Fae Tactics Red

Red’s available Fae Tactics weapons are the Red Eye Blade, the Blue Eye Blade, and the Grave Blade.

Red Eye Blade

  • Fire Element
  • +5 Mb Regen
  • Passing Blade
  • Wait Skill: Shadow Step
  • How to Unlock: Default Weapon

Review: Shadow Step is kind of nice because it allows Red to approach enemies on his own without being targeted. Other than that, there’s not much practical difference between his Fire sword and his Ice sword. Use whichever one is appropriate against the enemies on any given map.

Blue Eye Blade

  • Ice Element
  • Vamp
  • Passing Blade
  • Wait Skill: Sprint
  • How to Unlock: Defeat enemies with Red’s ultra repeatedly after unlocking the Dwarven Workshop

Review: The Fire and Ice weapons are pretty similar. Red himself is extraordinarily strong, but you should probably just pick whichever weapon is appropriate for your current map.

Grave Blade

  • Electric Element
  • +2 Range/Pull
  • Combo
  • Wait Skill: Exploit
  • How to Unlock: Defeat enemies with Red’s ultra repeatedly after defeating the Fire boss

Review: Red’s most interesting weapon. It’s ranged, it pulls enemies into Red’s melee attack range, and he follows up allies’ attacks just like he normally would with a melee weapon. Electric is a very strong element. It’s extremely interesting, but I wouldn’t say it’s far and away better than Red’s other weapons. Again, use whichever one has the most advantageous element for your current map.

Traits – Fae Tactics Red

fae tactics red traits

In Fae Tactics Red, like every other character, has 3 options when allocating Trait Points: Offense, Defense, and Special.

The bonuses he gets from each line are:

  • Offense: Soul Drinker +Hp/Atk
  • Defense: Marauder +Atk
  • Special: Hex Hunter

As with most attackers, the +100% Atk from the Offense line is a must-have. Once you get that, however, you’re going to want to invest in the Special line, not only because the Ultra Trigger reduction is amazing, but because unlocking Red’s weapons relies on killing a bunch of enemies with his Ultra.

You want to use Red’s Ultra as often as you possibly can. So it’s important to start going down the Special line for Red as soon as you can.

Still, I think maxing out his Offense line first is more important. Even if you’re getting Ultras more regularly, if Red’s ultra isn’t doing enough damage to reliably rack up his kill count, it’s not helping him unlock his weapons.

Scroll Options – Fae Tactics Red

Red is strictly a damage dealer. He’s fast, has high movement range and is reasonably tanky. He needs to use his ultra regularly to be effective. With those things in mind, here are some great scroll options for Red:

  • hopelessscroll Fae Tactics Red Character Guide Hopeless Scroll: Reduces Ultra Trigger by X
This would be the main scroll you want to use on Red. Between the Hopeless Scroll and his Special Trait, you can get his Ultra requirement down from 12 to 5, which makes him capable of using his Ultra pretty much every other round. Using it that often, Red can stack up ridiculous HP and Atk bonuses every fight.
  • ambushscroll Fae Tactics Red Character Guide Ambush Scroll: +X% Back Attack Damage
Because 2 of Red’s weapons have the Passing Blade ability, which repositions Red behind the target, he’s able to take advantage of back attack damage multiple times per round if he’s comboing off of other characters’ attacks. This takes some finesse to use, but the damage bonus is substantial.
  • Fae Tactics Red Character Guide Hex Breaker Scroll: +X% Damage to Enchanted/Cursed targets
The Hex Breaker scroll stacks with Red’s innate Hex Breaker that he unlocks through his Special Trait line. With a Rank 5 Hex Breaker scroll, Red gets a tremendous damage increase against any enemy with an Enchant or Curse which, in practical terms, is most enemies.

Conclusion – Fae Tactics Red

One of the 3 hidden Fae Tactics characters, Red is probably the most powerful melee attacker. In addition to that, he’s fast, he’s fairly sturdy, and he’s capable of sustaining himself because his ultra ability heals him and raises his max HP if it’s used to finish off an enemy.

Between a max rank Hopeless Scroll and his Special stat attributes, he can get his ultra orb requirement down to 5, meaning he can be throwing out his ultra attack pretty much every other round. Sometimes multiple times per round.

Red snowballs exceptionally well. If you’re able to kill multiple enemies with his ultra in a single map, he becomes the sole character who can chunk off huge amounts of a boss’s health bar. Kill 5+ enemies with his ultra on a boss map and watch him whack that 12000 HP boss for 400-600 damage while your other characters struggle to break into triple digits.

Because he’s a melee attacker, he also performs followup attacks on any enemy he’s standing next to, further increasing his utility for chunking huge amounts of HP off of bosses and leaders.

To top it off, Red also has a fairly good spread of elements, including Fire, Ice and Electric weapons. His electric weapon isn’t melee, but it does have a unique pull mechanic.
