If you’re playing XCOM Chimera Squad, you’re going to want to know what skills Axiom can learn when he levels up so you can make an informed decision about whether or not you want to have him in your active squad or keep him on the bench to go on Spec Ops or speed up the Assembly.

This guide will tell you everything you need to know about the skills Axiom gains in XCOM Chimera Squad.

XCOM: Chimera Squad Agent Ability Guides:

Axiom Overview – XCOM Chimera Squad

Axiom is a tanky physical attacker. He gains stacks of Rage, which increase his chance for applying status effects as well as giving him a chance of taking an extra, uncontrolled, turn. His unique abilities are Smash, which deals melee damage with a chance to Disorient, Stun, or render Unconscious (OHKO) and Psych Up, which manually adds a stack of Rage.

Like all other characters in XCOM Chimera Squad Axiom can rank up 5 times, and gets a permanent talent choice at ranks 2 and 4 and additional training options at ranks 3 and 5.

Rank 1: Deputy Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Axiom

Battering Ram

Description: Burst through a door breach point with a chance to Panic nearby enemies. Panic chance increases with Rage.

The panic effect isn’t terribly noticeable, but unlike most Breach skills, which are barely noticeable, at least this one activates passively and can happen multiple times per mission. You typically want Axiom to be the first guy through the breach point anyway, so you get a bit of a bonus with no downside here.

Rank 2: Field Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Axiom

Description: Upgrades Smash to apply a small amount of damage to nearby enemies. The extra targets also have a chance to become Disoriented, Stunned or rendered Unconscious.

The damage you get here is not too great, and enemies aren’t typically clumped together in a way that really makes an AoE melee attack effective. However, Axiom’s melee attacks have a pretty high chance of inflicting Unconscious, which is another word for death, so plowing into a group of enemies and watching a few of them just outright die from 2 points of splash damage is pretty cool.

Shrug It Off

Description: Axiom has a chance to reduce the damage from an incoming attack to 1.

Aftershock is not bad at all, but take this instead. Trust me. Shrug It Off activates constantly. I had it activate 9 times in a row. It has to be at least a 50% chance. Axiom already has the most HP and Armor, and is capable of getting 4 points of passive regeneration per turn between his own abilities and the Regenerative Weave you can buy in the store. Between this skill, his armor and his regeneration, Axiom is essentially impossible to kill, even in the later stages of the game.

Rank 3: Special Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Axiom

Adrenal Surge

Description: Smash and Psych Up do not end the turn or have cooldowns. 4 turn cooldown.

It sounds awesome, but in practice it’s just okay. Let’s be clear about something. Psych Up already does not end the turn, or even take up an action point. It’s a free action. Smash also does not have a cooldown. So what this skill amounts to is you get max Rage and you can Smash twice in one turn. It’s not bad, but it’s not mindblowingly good either.

Rank 4: Senior Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Axiom

Fear Factor

Description: Upgrades Smash to give it a chance to Panic nearby enemies. Chance increases with Rage.

Smash already has a chance to apply much more useful status effects than panic (stun and instant death), so I’m not sure what use this move is supposed to have. As far as I can tell, Panic makes the enemy run away and not attack, which is alright. But it’s not stun or instant death.

Description: Axiom regenerates a small amount of HP at the start of his turn.

This upgrade is where it’s at. The “small amount of HP” the description refers to is 2 HP. If you equip Axiom with a Regenerative Weave, he regenerates 4 HP per round, which is the same amount of healing that Terminal’s heal delivers. So he gets a free heal every round. Between this, Axiom’s armor, and Shrug It Off, in the later missions, I was able to just throw Axiom into the middle of enemy groups and have him take beatings from 4-5 enemies and come out of it at full HP. Axiom’s best use is as a ridiculous tank, and this ability is a big part of making that work. Highly recommend this skill.

Rank 5: Principal Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Axiom

Description: Axiom leaps up and slams the ground, destroying nearby cover and damaging enemy units. One use per mission.

Axiom’s ultimate ability is a worse version of Zephyr’s Rank 3 ability, so it’s not too impressive. The damage isn’t great, the AoE isn’t that large, and you can only use it once. It’s not nothing, but it’s nothing impressive.

Training Bonuses – XCOM Chimera Squad Axiom

Counterattack (Rank 5): Axiom has a chance to counterattack any melee attack against him, ignoring the damage of the attack and hitting the attacker.

That about covers it when it comes to XCOM Chimera Squad Axiom Abilities. Be sure to check out the Games Section for more content like this, and click here for more content related to XCOM Chimera Squad.
