Torque Overview – XCOM Chimera Squad

xcom chimera squad torque

In XCOM Chimera Squad Torque is a DPS character and disabler. Her signature moves are Bind, which disables and enemy as long as its active an deals damage each turn, and Tongue Pull, which drags an enemy to within 1 tile of Torque’s current position.

Like all other characters in XCOM Chimera Squad Torque can rank up 5 times, and gets a permanent talent choice at ranks 2 and 4 and additional training options at ranks 3 and 5.

Rank 1: Deputy Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Torque

Toxic Greeting

Description: Torque spits a blast of Poison at the target. The enemy will remain Poisoned for 2 turns.

It doesn’t state this in the description, but this move is a breach move, and it’s probably the best breach move in the game. It’s not limited, so you can use it every breach. It has a 100% hit rate and does 3 damage with a 100% chance of poison, which deals an additional 2 damage every round. While most breach enemies require 2-3 shots to kill, Toxic Greeting can pretty much guarantee a kill on a low health enemy within 2 rounds of the encounter starting.

Rank 2: Field Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Torque

Tight Squeeze

Description: Upgrades Bind to deal more damage.

This ability more than doubles the damage of Bind, from 2 to 5, and it turns Bind from something that’s mostly useful for taking an enemy off the map to a legitimate attack capable of incapacitating even high health, high armor enemies within 2-3 rounds. Since Bind is Torque’s signature move and the competition for the ability at this tier is a modest increase to dodge, I strongly recommend you pick this, it’s one of the best XCOM Chimera Squad Torque abilities.

Hard Target

Description: Torque gains extra Mobility on the first turn of every encounter and a permanent bonus to dodge.

This is not very useful at all. Torque doesn’t tend to be a character you typically move around the map very often. She’s able to drag enemies straight to her, and then she spends multiple turns not even being able to move. So the mobility is just not a good fit for her gameplay style at all, and even then it’s a very minor bonus. The bonus to dodge is helpful, but it’s nothing compared to the dramatic increase to Bind’s damage that Tight Squeeze provides.

Rank 3: Special Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Torque

Poison Spit

Description: Torque spits out a blast of poison that explodes into a deadly pool. Poisons all enemies in the area and does a small amount of damage on impact. 3 turn cooldown.

Poison spit is potent and very powerful as long as enemies aren’t immune to it. It deals 3 damage on impact and 2 damage every turn for multiple turns. It also doesn’t end your turn, so you can use it as an action before attacking or starting Bind. Later on, many enemies are immune to poison, but there are enough enemies in almost every encounter to make this move useful. Fairly strong move overall.

Rank 4: Senior Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Torque

Reinforced Scales

Description: Torque gains +1 Armor when binding an enemy and will not release the Bind upon taking damage.

This is an incredibly useful skill. With this skill, any enemy that gets wrapped up by Torque’s bind will die. It’s a 100% guarantee. Between this skill and Tight Squeeze, Torque is perfect for taking down high health, high armor enemies like Praetorians. Instead of spending 2 rounds of your whole team unloading ammo into them, just have Torque Bind them and squeeze them to death. Extremely useful.

Synthetic Venom

Description: Torque gains a bonus to Crit against Poisoned enemies and will heal when ending a turn while standing in poison.

The crit is alright, but it’s kind of pointless overall since DoTs are so strong in this game. Anything with poison will surely die within just a few turns and a shot or two, whether those shots crit or not. Healing while standing in poison is a neat little perk, since Torque can make her own poison cloud to stand in with Poison Spit. But if you’re using Poison Spit like that, you’re not using it offensively. This isn’t a bad skill, but it doesn’t compare to Reinforced Scales in my opinion.

Rank 5: Principal Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Torque

Vicious Bite

Description: Torque rears up and swiftly strikes an adjacent target with a devastating bite, dealing major damage and applying Poison. 3 turn cooldown.

This is a strong move that deals a fairly significant amount of damage + poison. The problem I have with it is that it requires melee range, it ends your turn, and it doesn’t have 100% accuracy. In other words, if you can cast Vicious Bite on them, you could easily Bind them as well, which has 100% accuracy and deals comparable damage with Tight Squeeze. Still, there are a few large enemies like Berserkers that are immune to bind and they’re not immune to this, and it does hit pretty hard. Nice little skill.

Training Bonuses – XCOM Chimera Squad Torque

Unlock Potential (Rank 3): Mobility increased by 1, dodge increased by 20.

Tag Team (Rank 5): Using Tongue Pull on an ally grants that ally 1 action immediately. Does not affect the target’s cooldowns.
