If you’re playing XCOM Chimera Squad, you’re going to want to know what skills Verge can learn when he levels up so you can make an informed decision about whether or not you want to have him in your active squad or keep him on the bench to go on Spec Ops or speed up the Assembly.

Verge Overview – XCOM Chimera Squad

Verge is a crowd control psionic mage who joins your squad in the first mission. His unique abilities are Stupor, which stuns an enemy, and Battle Madness, which forces an enemy to attack its teammates one time. Enemies affected by Verge’s spells get added to the neural network, increasing Verge’s accuracy against them.

Like all other characters in XCOM Chimera Squad Verge can rank up 5 times, and gets a permanent talent choice at ranks 2 and 4 and additional training options at ranks 3 and 5.

Rank 1: Deputy Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Verge


Description: Verge lifts and enemy into the air, removing their cover bonuses during the breach. Levitation cancels all Alert or Aggressive enemy behaviors.

Verge’s breach skill is fairly useless. If your squad consisted of more squad members who could take advantage of it, it may have some utility, but it’s almost always better to have Verge just shoot at whatever enemy you were planning to expose. Killing an enemy during the breach takes 2-3 shots, and casting Levitation and killing an enemy makes it take 2-4 shots. Not a fantastic skill.

Rank 2: Field Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Verge


Description: Verge gains +5 Aim and +10 Critical Chance for each enemy in the neural network.

This isn’t a bad bonus at all. On several of the longer maps, especially the ones with constant reinforcements, Verge can get 4-6 enemies in his neural networks with ease. Keep in mind that enemies stay in Verge’s neural network even after they’re knocked out if they’re unconscious instead of dead. So it’s not uncommon to get 20-30% more accuracy and +60% crit chance. Not too shabby.


Description: Enemies in the neural network that would be killed are rendered unconscious instead.

If you like getting 20 extra Intel for capturing enemies at the end of every map, Verge rocking this skill makes that a near certainty every time you include him in your party. It doesn’t provide the damage buff that Crowdsource does, but it helps Verge rack up a ridiculous number of networked enemies easily, which combines well with a later skill he has to regenerate HP based on the number of enemies in his network. It’s a very convenient skill. How often do you use Verge’s gun anyway?

Rank 3: Special Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Verge


Description: Verge lashes out with his mind, dealing mental damage to all enemies on the neural network. Damage from Mindflay will render enemies unconscious instead of killing them.

It’s alright. It does a paltry amount of damage (3), and it’s rare to be able to hit more than 3 enemies with it. Unlike Verge’s other skills, it ends the turn, so it’s not a freebie. It’s okay for getting past the armor of high armor enemies, but the amount of damage isn’t typically very worthwhile. It’s usually better just to shoot them.

Rank 4: Senior Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Verge

Network Healing

Description: Verge heals 1 HP for every enemy in the neural network at the end of the turn.

This skill gives Verge a shocking amount of survivability. Given that you’ll almost always have at least two enemies in the neural network and sometimes up to 6 or more, it gives Verge almost a free heal every round. After taking this skill, I found that my Verge would commonly be sitting at full HP even on difficult maps where everyone else’s health was being slowly whittled down.


Description: Levitation slams the targeted enemy into the ground, dealing 1-3 mental damage and adding the unit to the neural network. Damage from Slam will render enemies unconscious instead of killing them.

Well, let’s see here. The decision at this tier is near-permanent HP regen every turn that’s borderline gamebreaking, or 1-3 mental damage on a terrible breach skill that you can use max 3 times in a mission. I think the choice is clear.

Rank 5: Principal Agent – XCOM Chimera Squad Verge


Description: Verge mind-controls all enemies on the neural network. The effect only lasts for the remainder of the turn. One use per mission.

Puppeteer is basically battle madness on steroids. It’s pretty good if you’ve racked up a fair amount of enemies on the neural network, and it’s kind of cool to watch the chaos unfold. I really don’t like this one use per mission mechanic, but it is what it is. Does a fair amount of damage. I’m not sure how much better it is than Mindflay with Verge’s rank 5 training upgrade, but it’s fun to watch.

Training Bonuses – XCOM Chimera Squad Verge

Mind Lash (Rank 5): Mindflay deals an additional 1 damage to every enemy in the neural network.
