Bravely Default 2 Arcanist Job Overview
In Bravely Default 2 Arcanist is a powerful mage, but damaging your own party is a major drawback. You can obviously turn it into your benefit by equipping enough elemental resistance gear to nullify or absorb the elements, but that’s not always feasible or worth the effort. The Arcanist specialties are at best underwhelming and at worst an outright drawback.

MP Regen and Magic Amp are both must-have passives for magic users. Even though Arcanist has the most powerful spells, it’s not possible to get Chainspell, Arcanist skillset and Freelancer stat bonuses all at once, and it’s better to cast Quake 8x with Freelancer stat bonuses than cast Meteor and have to choose between max stats and Chainspell.

Applying attack spells to multiple targets does not reduce the damage inflicted, but does cause them to target the user.

Wild Wizardry
Attack spells are 20% more powerful and also reduce their targets’ MP. However, they will occasionally target all allies and enemies.

8	Meltdown	Perform a powerful magical attack on ally and foe alike that combines the powers of fire and wind.
9	Death	Attempt to instantly KO a target.
10	MP Regen	(Passive) MP is restored by 5% at the end of each turn.
11	Comet	Perform two to four quick non-elemental magic attacks on a target.
12	Doomsday	Perform an incredibly powerful dark magic attack on a target.
13	Magic Amp	(Passive) Spells cost 50% more MP but deal 25% more damage.
14	Apocalypse	Perform an extremely powerful magical attack on ally and foe alike that combines the powers of earth and darkness.
