Overview & Review- Yakuza Like a Dragon Freelancer Job

yakuza like a dragon freelancer

Kasuga’s starting job in Yakuza Like a Dragon Freelancer is very much not intended to be a job that he spends the game assigned to. It has fewer skills than every other job and doesn’t have access to any damage boosting weapons.

In terms of classic RPG archetypes, Freelancer is most similar to a Fighter.

Since Freelancer can’t equip any weapons, the damage from its normal attacks struggles to keep pace with what other jobs are capable of. It does learn some decently powerful abilities, but none of them are compelling enough to make you want to play through the game using Freelancer as your main class.

Freelancer only gets one Essence level skill (most jobs get at least 2), it learns about half of the amount of active skills as any other class, and it has no multi-target or target-all abilities whatsoever.

The main usefulness of Freelancer, really, is that it provides a ton of Agility and Attack bonuses. Since Kasuga has two unique jobs and every other character only has one, his maximum stats totals are potentially higher than every other character, assuming you’re willing to put in a few hundred hours of grinding to max out every job.

Freelancer isn’t an awful job, but it’s clearly not intended to be the job you stick with the entire game. Use it at the start, then maybe come back to it at some point during the endgame to collect those nice Attack and Agility bonuses.

Yakuza Like a Dragon Freelancer Best Weapon

The Freelancer job not only doesn’t have a best weapon, it doesn’t have any weapons. It relies almost completely on its passive Attack bonuses from leveling and an increased damage multiplier on its skills.

Yakuza Like a Dragon Freelancer Accessory

As with every other job in Yakuza Like a Dragon Freelancer gets access to its own unique accessory that boosts the job experience gained while you’re in that job.

The Hero job’s accessory is a little bit special, just like Kasuga himself. Unlike the other accessories, the Dragonfish Tenugui boosts Job Experience for every class, but it can only be equipped by Kasuga. It’s generally considered to be the job accessory for Hero and Freelancer because apart from the Dragonfish Tenugui, there is no other way to boost the Job Experience for those two classes.

The Dragonfish Tenugui is located in Kamurocho in Chapter 15 inside Lullaby Mahjong. It’s inside a gold safe. This building also contains a Tranquil Tenugui, so make sure to collect both.

Character Skills – Yakuza Like a Dragon Freelancer Job

Every job in Yakuza Like a Dragon has two specific Character Skills, which, once learned, can be used by that character no matter which job class they’ve been assigned.

For the Freelancer job, the character skills are:

Hyper Swagger: Kasuga hypes himself up and attunes to the flow of battle, boosting his Evasion and Attack for 2 turns.

Release German Suplex: Damage an enemy with a wrestling technique known as a release German suplex. May instantly knock out the enemy.

Freelancer’s Character skills are alright. Hyper Swagger isn’t particularly useful, especially compared to the Hero job’s much more potent Fearless Command skill, which boosts Attack for the whole party.

Release German Suplex is a pretty good move. It does great damage and has a chance to instant kill an enemy. The only real issue with it is that most jobs, especially male jobs, have access to pretty good blunt type single target attacks. So, while Release German Suplex is definitely a good move, it might not be something you’d feel compelled to go out of your way to get.
