Overview & Review- Yakuza Like a Dragon Bodyguard Job
The Yakuza Like a Dragon Bodyguard job focuses on dealing immense single target damage at the expense of its own HP, much like the Final Fantasy series’ Dark Knight class archetype.
In terms of classic RPG archetypes, Bodyguard is most similar to a Dark Knight.
Despite being one of the coolest looking jobs available, Bodyguard is somewhat lacking as you get further into the game. It does boast high attack power, but most of its attacks come with conditions that other high-attack power jobs (like Foreman, for example) don’t have to deal with.
It also completely lacks any area or target-all attacks, making it difficult for the Bodyguard to keep up in terms of usefulness during the later stages of the game where many other jobs can just delete entire enemy teams in one shot.
Where the Bodyguard does shine, however, is in its bladed damage type and its useful Attack and Dexterity bonuses. Outside of the Bodyguard, bladed attacks for male jobs are only found on the Chef job (which lacks the high attack power of the Bodyguard), Zhao’s Gangster job, the DLC Devil Rocker job and a handful of mediocre bladed attacks Joon-gi Han learns while leveling.
Bodyguard feels like it’s at its strongest at the very start of the game, when high attack power on normal physical attacks is at its most useful.
Yakuza Like a Dragon Bodyguard Best Weapon
The best weapon for the Yakuza Like a Dragon Bodyguard job is called the Demon Blade Muramasa EX EX. Like all the best weapons, it’s obtained by upgrading a low level base weapon at the Romance Workshop in the Commercial District in Ijincho.
The base weapon you need is the Nameless Katana, which you can buy from the Shogi Prize Shop for 500 points.
To finish upgrading the weapon, you need a Sakura Storm, which you can buy from Kamulop at the Grand Blu Marino Hotel in Northeast Ijincho for 50 Tojo Clan Crests, or (much more easily) from Le Marche in Kamurocho for 10,000,000 yen.

Yakuza Like a Dragon Bodyguard Accessory
The Job Experience accessory for the Yakuza Like a Dragon Bodyguard Job is pretty easy to obtain. It’s called the Swordman’s Sash. You can get one from Substory 34. Unfortunately there’s only one Swordman’s Sash available in the game, so the Bodyguard can only achieve a 1.5x Job Experience bonus.
Character Skills – Yakuza Like a Dragon Bodyguard Job
Every job in Yakuza Like a Dragon has two specific Character Skills, which, once learned, can be used by that character no matter which job class they’ve been assigned.
For the Bodyguard job, the character skills are:
Berserker Spirit: Pump yourself up by putting your life on the line. Greatly boosts your Attack on the next turn.
Diehard Skewer: Unleash a powerful attack on a single foe that also damages the user. The lower the user’s remaining HP, the higher the damage is.
Bodyguard’s Character Skills are decent enough. Berserker Spirit seems to be Like a Dragon’s answer to the iconic Charge skill from the Persona series, but it doesn’t feel nearly as impactful. Once your Passion is high enough, a single cast of Kasuga’s Fearless Command skill overshadows Berserker Spirit, especially since it affects the whole party.
Diehard Skewer is a nice way to get a bladed attack type on characters who otherwise don’t have easy access to a diversity of attack types, like Kasuga and Adachi. It’s not the best attack, but it’s not terrible either.
