Overview & Review- Yakuza Like a Dragon Host Job

yakuza like a dragon host

Host is the go-to Mage class in Yakuza Like a Dragon. It learns mostly ice elemental magic, but also ends up learning powerful target-all Fire elemental and Ice elemental spells.

In terms of classic RPG archetypes, Host is most similar to a Mage.

In terms of power and skills, it’s roughly on par with Nanba’s unique Homeless Guy job. Their skillsets are extremely similar. Both jobs learn 2 fullscreen extreme damage spells. The only thing Host really lacks compared to Homeless Guy is the latter’s big fullscreen Attack/Defense debuff, which is luckily a Character Skill that Nanba retains if you swap him into the Host job.

In some ways, Host is actually a step up from Homeless Guy because while more enemies seem to be weak to Fire, more powerful enemies seem to be weak to Ice. Still, it’s advisable to level as a Homeless Guy first because the MP bonuses Homeless Guy gets are much more impactful than the milquetoast +Healing that Host gets access to.

Host also gives you the ability, if you don’t like Nanba for whatever reason, to make someone else your mage. Joon-gi Han is a good option because his natural Magic stat is decent, he’s fast, and his unique Hitman job is only about average.

Yakuza Like a Dragon Host Best Weapon

The best weapon for the Yakuza Like a Dragon Host job is called the Snow Sapphire Wine EX EX. Like all the best weapons, it’s obtained by upgrading a low level base weapon at the Romance Workshop in the Commercial District in Ijincho.

The base weapon you need is the Table Sparkling, which you can buy at the Gambling Hall in Ijincho for 50 wooden tags, or you can randomly find in silver safes in the Yokohama Underground.

To finish upgrading the weapon, you need a Prestige, which you can repeatedly win from the 15th Floor of the Sotenbori Battle Arena.

Yakuza Like a Dragon Host Accessory

yakuza like a dragon host job accessory fancy business card

The Job Experience accessory for the Yakuza Like a Dragon Host Job is pretty easy to obtain. It’s called the Fancy Business Card. You can get one from Substory 23 or you can simply buy as many as you like from the secret shop in the Commercial District in Ijincho at the far Southwest corner of the map (Demolition skill required).

Since you can obtain multiple Fancy Business Card, Host is able to equip two at once to boost its job experience by 2x.

Character Skills – Yakuza Like a Dragon Host Job

Every job in Yakuza Like a Dragon has two specific Character Skills, which, once learned, can be used by that character no matter which job class they’ve been assigned.

For the Host job, the character skills are:

Ice Spreader: Deal ice damage to an enemy by shaking around an ice bucket. May leave the enemy and other enemies around with a cold.

Secret Cocktail: The user recovers their own HP by mixing and drinking their own special cocktail. May leave the user drunk.

Ice Spreader is one of the better Character Skills overall, since it gives characters access to an ice-elemental attack, and a fairly decent one at that. This is a must have on anyone you’re planning to turn into a mage, since there are some fairly tough enemies that are weak to ice.

Secret Cocktail is worthless, especially if you’re using Nanba, who learns much more powerful healing spells by leveling up. On any other character, it’s still pretty useless, especially given the prevalence of easily acquired healing items throughout the game.
